Federal Agency Engagement in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Standards Development

NIST has released a plan for prioritizing federal agency engagement in the development of standards for artificial intelligence (AI) . The plan recommends the federal government “commit to deeper, consistent, long-term engagement in AI standards development activities to help the United States to speed the pace of reliable, robust, and trustworthy AI technology development.”

NIST Researchers Receive the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers

Ten researchers from NIST received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers for 2019.  The award is the highest honor bestowed by the United States government to science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers.  Congratulations to the NIST awardees!

Space Commerce Workshop

On September 12, 2019, The Department of Commerce (DOC) Boulder Laboratories, the DOC Office of Space Commerce, and the University of Colorado Boulder are presenting a one-day workshop to bring together industry, academia, and federal government organizations to identify key technology and measurement barriers to deploying and safely operating commercial space technology.  If you are interested in attending, register before September 5th.    

 

NIST Awards $6.6 Million to Improve Structures’ Resilience

NIST is awarding more than $6.6 million to fund research into improving disaster resilience.  Funding was awarded to eleven organizations to conduct research into how earthquakes, wind and fire affect the built environment to inform building designs, codes and standards to help those structures better withstand such hazards.  For more information and to see a list of awardees, please see news release
