RECENT NEWS

Redefining the SI Base Units

On November 16, in Versailles, France, representatives from more than 50 countries are expected to vote to transform the International System of Units (SI), informally known as the metric system. This historic change will be the largest single shift in international measurement since the Treaty of the Meter was signed in 1875.

Next week, the world’s measurement experts are expected to revise the SI, this time approving a system that does not depend on physical objects. Instead, it will be based entirely on unchanging fundamental properties of nature.  <<READ MORE>>

NIST Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology (VCAT)

On October 16 and October 17, NIST held its Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology (VCAT) meeting in Boulder, CO.  The VCAT reviews and makes recommendations regarding general policy for NIST, its organization, its budget and its programs.  For more information and meeting presentations, please see the October 2018 agenda.

Strategy for American Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing Report Released

On October 5, the White House released the Strategy for American Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing report, which is based on a vision for American leadership in advanced manufacturing across industrial sectors to ensure national security and economic prosperity. 

The strategic plan was developed by the National Science and Technology Council, Subcommittee on Advanced Manufacturing, with significant input from industry, manufacturing associations, technical associations, other organizational stakeholders, and members of the public obtained through a Request for Information supplemented by numerous roundtable discussions hosted by NIST and different stakeholders across the country.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

  • December 3 - 4, 2018 - The 2018 NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference will be held in San Antonio, TX.  This conference brings together educators, curriculum specialists, professionals, researchers, students, non-profit organizations, foundations, government, and industry to address the challenges and opportunities of cybersecurity education in elementary and secondary schools. The event includes workshops, keynote speakers, panel discussions, and exhibits designed to promote cybersecurity career awareness and support academic preparedness of K12 students.
