Workcred Releases Manufacturing Credentials Report Funded by the NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership

To help strengthen the quality, value, and effectiveness of manufacturing credentials in the U.S., Workcred, an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) affiliate, has released a report funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) examining how credentials are currently used in hiring and retention practices, and how credentialing can be improved to advance the manufacturing industry.  

The report, Examining the Quality, Market Value, and Effectiveness of Manufacturing Credentials in the United States features recommendations for multiple stakeholders including manufacturers, credentialing organizations, educators, accreditors, and policymakers.


    NIST Awards $4 Million for 2018 Small Business Innovation Research Program

    The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has awarded $4 million in grants to 21 small businesses to support innovative technology development.

    Awardees in 15 states will receive Phase I or Phase II funding through NIST’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The competitively selected awardees submitted proposals in response to NIST’s call for innovations in nine specific technology areas, including cybersecurity and privacy, physical infrastructure and resilience, and data and modeling.     Notice of Funding Opportunity for a Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Center in Alaska

    NIST invites eligible organizations to submit an application for cooperative agreement funding for the operations of one (1) MEP Center in the State of Alaska. The MEP Center will provide manufacturing extension services to primarily small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) and will become part of the MEP National Network™. Learn More

    NIST Small Business Cybersecurity Act Signed Into Law

    The NIST Small Business Cybersecurity Act (PL 115-236) was signed into law on August 14, 2018.  It requires NIST to "disseminate, and publish on its website, standard and method resources that small business may use voluntarily to help identify, assess, manage, and reduce their cybersecurity risks." 

        UPCOMING MEETINGS

        • September 12, 2018 – The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Advisory Board is holding a meeting at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown from 2:00pm - 6:00pm CT.  The meeting will focus on activities related to the 2017– 2022 MEP National Network Strategic Plan as well as provide opportunities for the Board to provide input on supply chain development opportunities and research and performance metrics to support Center evaluation.         • November 6 - 7, 2018 - The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) 2018 Conference and Expo will be held in Miami, FL at the Hyatt Regency.  The conference theme, "Innovations in Cybersecurity Education, Training, and Workforce Development", will include presentations that demonstrate new, creative, innovative, and effective approaches that will prepare, grow, and sustain a national cybersecurity workforce to safeguard and promote America’s national security and economic prosperity.
