for National Strategic Plan for Advanced Manufacturing
The National Science and Technology Council, Subcommittee on Advanced Manufacturing is in the process of developing a
National Strategic Plan for Advanced Manufacturing to improve Government
coordination and provide long-term guidance for Federal programs and activities
in support of United States manufacturing competitiveness, including advanced
manufacturing research and development over the next five to ten years.
Input is requested from stakeholders active in advanced
manufacturing, that may be used as input into developing the National Strategic
Plan for Advanced Manufacturing. For more information, please see the Request for Information (RFI), published February 5, 2018.
Responses are due by
March 7, 2018 and may be submitted by input form.
MEP Advisory Board
Meeting
On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Advisory Board will meet in Washington, DC. The MEP Board provides the NIST Director
advice on the activities, plans, and policies of the MEP program. For more details, please view the agenda for the upcoming meeting. If interested in attending, please contact

VIDEO/BLOG –
Precision Measurement
NIST recently released a video
highlighting some of the 100+ years of the agency’s history in precision
measurement, through the words of six former NIST Directors. The video is narrated by actors Sean and John
Astin – their father and grandfather was Allen V. Astin, former NIST
Director. The video includes experts
from a 1953 speech that Astin made to the American Physical Society.
The video was included as part of a blog
recently released from NIST Director, Dr. Walter Copan.

On February 14, 2018, Dr. Charles Romine,
Director of the Information Technology Laboratory at NIST testified before the
House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, Subcommittee on Oversight
and Subcommittee on Research and Technology.
The purpose of the hearing was to explore the science of blockchain
technology and its potential and emerging applications beyond cryptocurrency
and financial technology. You may view

2018 Small
Business Innovation Research Funding Opportunity
NIST is now accepting proposals for its 2018 Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) awards. The
competitive program encourages domestic small businesses to engage in federally
funded research and development opportunities that have the potential for
commercialization. Applications for
Phase I will be accepted through April 4, 2018.

Standards Services
Curricula Development (SSCD) Funding Opportunity
NIST recently announced funding
for cooperative agreements for curricula development that will educate students
about the impact, nature and value of standards and standardization so they
develop a strong understanding and appreciation for the role of standards in
the domestic and global marketplace. The NIST Standards Services
Curricula Development Cooperative Agreement Program is
designed to help integrate standards and standardization content into
undergraduate and graduate programs at U.S. colleges and universities.
Eligible applicants may apply for awards of up to $75,000 to
integrate standards education into undergraduate or graduate-level courses. Proposals may be submitted through Monday,
April 16, 2018.
