Manufacturing Day

Thank you for all of your hard work and efforts in making #MFGDay15 the best one yet!  It’s simply remarkable to read about what took place (and still is for Manufacturing Month in some places).

NIST MEP would like to leverage and spotlight your center successes over the next couple of months, with a particular focus on posts throughout October.  We’ve been cross-promoting articles we’ve found on social media, but would also like to highlight each center individually. We’re asking for you to send anything you want us to put out on our social channels by emailing a link and/or blurb as well as photos/videos from your event(s), to mepconnect@nist.gov.

If you’re interested in sharing your success story on our Manufacturing Innovation blog, please send a one sentence bio for the author, approved images, and ~500 word post.  We’ll work with NIST Public Affairs to approve the content and send back any edits to you prior to finalizing and posting.
In the coming months, we’ll ask for your feedback on what worked/what didn’t/suggestions for improvement for 2016 and for a summary of your center’s MFG Day efforts to include in a State by State Report for key stakeholders and to share best practices across the system.

What's Happening around Manufacturing

Federal Funding Opportunity from EDA
EDA is pleased to announce the publication of a Federal Funding Opportunity under its Trade Adjustment Assistance for Firms (TAAF) program to provides cost-shared technical assistance to help strengthen the competitiveness of American companies that have been negatively impacted by increasing imports. EDA operates the TAAF program through a national network of Trade Adjustment Assistance Centers.

These companies could be MEP Center’s existing manufacturing clients and could also help your Center garner new clients thus expanding your reach and penetration.

Food Safety Modernization Act Training Webinar
Last week, the FDA approved the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation. As of September 2016 small manufactures and businesses will have to comply with this new regulation.
The FDA will host a meeting to discuss FDA’s comprehensive planning effort for the next phase of FSMA implementation, which involves putting in place the new public health prevention measures and the risk-based industry accountability framework that is at the core of the act.

This is an opportunity for MEP centers to engage in education and training projects for SME’s in order to comply to the new prescriptive requirements.
