On Wednesday, March 13, you will hear from leading authorities about the innovative research being conducted to advance the understanding and treatment of mental disorders at the Division of Intramural Research Programs at NIMH in Bethesda, Maryland.
Identifying and Treating Childhood Mental Disorders
 Childhood Anxiety Disorders: Daniel Pine, M.D.
Dr. Pine, Chief of the Section on Development and Affective Neuroscience conducts research seeking to identify the genetic and environmental factors underlying these mental illnesses so clinicians can identify who might be prone to them, spot early symptoms, and tailor treatments more precisely to individual patients.  Bipolar Disorder and Severe Mood Dysregulation: Ellen Leibenluft, M.D.
Dr. Leibenluft, Chief of the Section on Bipolar Spectrum Disorders studies the brain mechanisms mediating bipolar disorder and severe irritability in youth. The Teen Brain

For more than 20 years, Dr. Giedd Chief of the Section on Brain Imaging, Child Psychiatry Branch, has studied the development of the adolescent brain. His research team uses cutting edge technologies to explore the relationship between genes, brain, and behavior in healthy development and in neuropsychiatric disorders of childhood onset.
