New Funding Opportunities

NINR Areas of Emphasis for Research to Optimize Health and Advance Health Equity 

  • PAR-22-230: (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) solicits R01 grant applications that propose independent research projects that are consistent with the scientific framework detailed in the NINR Strategic Plan. First Application Due Date: November 9, 2022
  • PAR-22-231: (R21 Clinical Trial Optional) solicits R21 grant applications that propose exploratory/developmental research projects that are consistent with the research framework detailed in the NINR Strategic PlanFirst Application Due Date: November 21, 2022

This research will be rooted in nursing's holistic, contextualized approach to understanding people and their health, address the nation's most pressing and persistent health challenges with a solutions orientation, and employ innovative and rigorous study designs to inform practice and policy. 

Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence

  • RFA-HD-23-035: (U54 Clinical Trial Optional) invites applications to participate as a Research Center as part of the Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to generate innovative approaches to address preventable maternal mortality, decrease severe maternal morbidity, and promote maternal health equity in partnership with one or more populations that experience maternal health disparities. Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO)

  • RFA-OD-22-016: ECHO Laboratory Core (U24) Clinical Trial Not Allowed invites applications for a Laboratory Core for the ECHO program. Applications Due: November 21, 2022
  • RFA-OD-22-017: Open Competition: ECHO Pregnancy Cohort Study Sites. Clinical Trial Not Allowed (UG3/UH3) invites applications for new ECHO Cohort Study Sites to extend and expand the capacity of the ECHO Cohort to further investigate the roles of a broad range of early exposures from society to biology, including the preconception period, on ECHO’s five key child health outcome areas—pre-, peri- and postnatal, upper and lower airways, obesity, neurodevelopment, and positive health—among diverse populations. Community Partnerships to Advance Science for Society (ComPASS) Program

  • OTA-22-007: Community-Led, Health Equity Structural Intervention Initiative supports the development, implementation, assessment, and dissemination of community-led, health equity structural interventions, co-created in partnership with research organizations, that intervene upon structural factors that produce and perpetuate health disparities. Letter of Intent Due: November 18, 2022

Other Opportunities

  • PAR-22-233: Time-Sensitive Opportunities for Health Research (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) establishes an accelerated review/award process to support research to understand health outcomes related to an unexpected and/or time-sensitive event (e.g., emergent environmental threat; pandemic; change in local, state, or national policy; natural disaster). Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, beginning November 1, 2022.
  • NOT-OD-22-208: Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Research on the Health of Women of Understudied, Underrepresented and Underreported (U3) Populations (Admin Supp Clinical Trial Optional) announces the availability of administrative supplements to support research highlighting health inequities among women in the United States who are understudied, underrepresented and underreported (U3) in biomedical research. Applications Due: January 31, 2023
  • NOT-OD-22-203: NOSI: Development and Preliminary Testing of Health-related Behavioral Interventions highlights NIH interest in the systematic development of original health-related behavioral interventions that test hypotheses that draw on basic behavioral and social sciences research (bBSSR) findings that posit causal or processual mechanisms of action of healthier behavior change. Continuing Funding Opportunities

  • RFA-AT-23-001: HEAL Initiative: Pragmatic and Implementation Studies for the Management of Sickle Cell Disease Pain (UG3/UH3, Clinical Trials Optional) solicits cooperative agreement applications to conduct multisite embedded pragmatic or implementation trials to inform the uptake of pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic, and/or multicomponent approaches for acute and/or chronic sickle cell disease (SCD) pain management in health care systems that serve the SCD population. Application Due Date: November 21, 2022
  • RFA-AT-23-002: HEAL Initiative: Sickle Cell Disease Pain Management Trials Utilizing the Pain Management Effectiveness Research Network Cooperative Agreement (UG3/UH3, Clinical Trial Required) solicits cooperative agreement applications to support multisite efficacy or effectiveness clinical trials of pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic, and/or multicomponent approaches for acute and/or chronic sickle cell disease (SCD) pain management, allowing continued opioid pain management as needed. Application Due Date: November 21, 2022
  • NOT-NS-22-087: NOSI: Encourage Eligible NIH HEAL Initiative Awardees to Apply for Administrative Supplements to Support Career Enhancement Related to Clinical Research on Pain will support supplements to existing HEAL clinical research awards to allow exceptional graduate, post-doctoral, or early career individuals to expand their clinical pain research experience and gain access to the tools and skills needed to prepare them for a career in clinical pain research.
