NCI Director Asks for Animal Model Language in Abstracts when Applying for Grants
NCI Director Anthony Letai, M.D., Ph.D., published an article explaining how the use of animals must be explicitly justified in the abstract when applying for federal funding, starting October 5, 2026. Grant applications using animal models must include this justification including why alternatives are inferior. This information must be in the abstract, as this section of the grant application becomes public information via the NIH RePORTER database when funded.
