Guidance on Reopening of NIH Extramural Activities

Due to the lapse in government funding on October 1, 2025, grant application submission deadlines and review meetings did not take place. Updated information thus far:

• All grant applications submitted late for due dates between October 1, 2025, and December 5, 2025, will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. local time December 8, 2025. There is no additional 2-week late window.

• The shutdown required NIH to cancel more than 370 peer review meetings, delaying the review of more than 24,000 applications. The volume of missed meetings complicates NIH efforts to catch up. For these applications to be considered in the January council as originally planned, the percentage of applications discussed will be reduced to 30-35%, instead of the current approximately 50%, and additional modifications will take place. Mechanisms that Impact Cancer Risk with Use of Incretin Mimetics  

NCI invites applications for investigator-initiated studies addressing mechanisms by which incretin mimetics – specifically glucagon-like peptide (GLP)-1 or dual GLP-1/ glucose dependent insulinotropic polypepide (GIP)-1 receptor agonists (RAs) – impact cancer risk.
