The NCI Division of Cancer Prevention Early Career Scientist Opportunity highlights early career scientists who are advancing research within the areas supported by DCP, including:
- Cancer Early Detection Biomarker Development and Screening
- Intervention Development for Cancer Prevention
- Precision Cancer Prevention
- Symptom Science and Management
Selected nominees are invited to present their research in the Early Career Scientist Spotlight Seminar Series and will have the opportunity to meet with staff involved in cancer prevention research across DCP and NCI. The deadline for nominations is July 31, 2025.

MCD Workshop Proceedings Available: Opportunities and Challenges for the Development and Adoption of Multicancer Detection Tests
Several NCI staff, including DCP Director Philip Castle, Ph.D., M.P.H., Christos Patriotis, Ph.D., and Wendy Rubinstein, M.D., Ph.D., participated in the October 2024 workshop held by the National Academies National Cancer Policy Forum. The workshop explored the current scientific understanding and clinical use of multicancer detection tests and implications for cancer care and outcomes.

Metformin and Intensive Lifestyle Intervention Effects on Cancer Incidence
DCP’s Brandy Heckman-Stoddard, Ph.D., M.P.H., and collaborators across NIH and other institutions, recently published an evaluation showing that interventions involving weight loss or the drug metformin did not reduce cancer risk among participants in the long-term Diabetes Prevention Program Outcome Study (DPPOS).
