In a special commentary, a new naming convention for how researchers talk about cancer prevention is proposed. Precision prevention uses concrete metrics to understand risks and benefits and promotes “equal care for equal risk.” NCI’s Philip E. Castle, Ph.D., Jessica M. Faupel-Badger, Ph.D., and Asad Umar, D.V.M., Ph.D., published A Proposed Framework and Lexicon for Cancer Prevention, in Cancer Discovery on April 4.

The TACPAD meeting aims to: foster the exchange of ideas and create collaborative interactions among leading cancer prevention researchers, highlight new and emerging trends in immunoprevention and chemoprevention, and inform the research community of the significant resources available from NCI to promote prevention agent development and rapid translation to clinical trials and to engage cancer researchers with novel prevention concepts.

Changes Coming to NIH Applications and Peer Review in 2025
Multiple changes are coming in 2025 that will affect the submission and review of NIH grant applications. These changes include updates to the peer review and submission of most research project grants, fellowships, and training grants; Common Forms for NIH biographical sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support; updated instructions for reference letters; and the transition to FORMS-I application instructions.
Although each of these initiatives has specific goals, they are all meant to simplify, clarify, and/or promote greater fairness towards a level playing field for applicants throughout the application and review processes.

Updated Guidance for Investigators Planning to Submit a P01
The NCI Division of Cancer Prevention has updated guidance to support submission of Program Project Grants (P01). These grants support investigator-initiated multi-project research programs with a major objective or theme relevant to cancer research.
