The NIDDK releases updated guide for Sisters Together: Move More, Eat Better Program
More than 1 in 3 U.S. adults and more than 1 in 2 U.S. black
women have obesity. This excess weight increases the risk for diabetes, kidney
disease, heart disease, and other serious health problems.
To help address obesity, the NIDDK has updated its Sisters Together: Move More, Eat Better Program
Guide (PDF). Sisters Together is a national health awareness program that encourages
black women ages 18 and older to reach and maintain a healthy weight by being
more physically active and making healthier food choices.
Do you see a need in your community and want to help? The Sisters
Together program guide describes six steps to start, promote, fund, evaluate,
and sustain a health awareness effort, and highlights other programs developed
by different groups around the country. In the guide, you’ll also find sample
forms, letters, emails, and social media posts that you can copy and modify to
suit your specific needs.
