Trial of Potential Universal Flu Vaccine Opens at NIH Clinical Center

volunteer in trial of BPL-1357 universal flu vaccine candidate receives intramuscular injection

A Phase 1 clinical trial of a novel influenza vaccine has begun inoculating healthy adult volunteers at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The placebo-controlled trial will test the safety and ability to prompt immune responses of a candidate vaccine, BPL-1357, that was developed by NIAID researchers. The single-site trial, which can enroll up to 100 people aged 18 to 55 years old, is led by NIAID investigator Matthew J. Memoli, M.D.
