The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Vaccine Research Center (VRC) is seeking an outstanding scientist for a tenure-eligible position to manage a complex laboratory that is critical to the VRC mission of advancing vaccines into clinical trials. The selected candidate is expected to direct a vigorous independent program focused on addressing basic hypothesis-driven analyses of clinical trials aiding in vaccine discovery and development. The program will maintain a rigorous, successful basic B-cell immunobiology research capability that supports experimental preclinical and clinical studies for a variety of infectious diseases. The overall portfolio will be focused on translational studies investigating the impact of preexisting immunity on vaccine development.
Candidates must hold an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree and have relevant research experience. Applicants must also have a strong publication record demonstrating an ability to perform independent, high-quality, creative, and impactful research in the fields of vaccines and viral immunology. The ideal candidate will have expertise in HIV, SIV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2 T-cell and B-cell immunology and assay development. The incumbent should have experience in managing large research programs. The ideal candidate should also have experience in elucidation and characterization of T- and B-cell responses associated with control of replication or protection from HIV, SIV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, the ideal candidate should have experience in managing scientific projects where collaborations between private and government-funded aspects exist.
To apply for the position, interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae (CV), bibliography, and two- to three-page description of the proposed research program. Additionally, three letters of reference must be sent directly from the referees. Please include in the CV a description of mentoring and outreach activities in which you have been involved, especially those involving women and persons from other groups underrepresented in biomedical research. Please send all materials to VRCADMIN at VRCADMIN@niaid.nih.gov. Review of applications will begin on or around December 23, 2021, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
