It’s Time to Vote! Help Us Get to SXSW
After a 2+ year pandemic hiatus, we’re eager to reconnect, and we need your help! We hope you’ll consider voting for the Copyright Office’s 2023 SXSW panel pitch. Read more about our idea and sign up to vote below.
Nothing Boring with the Copyright Royalty Board
Did you know that a three-judge panel in Washington D.C. sets certain royalty rates paid by digital music providers to songwriters? In summer 2022, the Copyright Royalty Board issued royalty rates for 2018-2022 and in early 2023, the Board will issue rates for 2023-2027. Who is the Board and how does it operate? Why were rates for 2018 set in 2022? Why was there a delay? What do the new rates mean for songwriters, publishers, and digital music services? What happens next? Join the Copyright Office for a moderated discussion with industry representatives to discuss the Copyright Royalty Board, The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC), and what YOU need to know to get paid.
Moderated by the U.S. Copyright Office, with
Erin McAnally, songwriter, artist advocate, and music publisher; and
Tiffany Red, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and the founder/executive director of the 100 Percenters, a nonprofit that supports BIPOC and marginalized creatives.
Sound like fun? Think you’d like to learn more? Vote for our pitch by August 21.
Thanks for your support, and we hope to see you there!
