Digital Collection Specialist (Temporary Appointment – 6 month NTE)

The Collections Discovery & Metadata Services (CDMS) Division in the Digital Services Directorate (DSD) is offering an opportunity for two qualified individuals at the GS-9 level to serve on a full-time, 180-day temporary appointment as a Digital Collection Specialist for the Collections Discovery & Metadata Services Division. The Digital Collection Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Chief, of the CDMS Division.

CDMS manages and operates descriptive metadata enterprise systems in support of the Library’s mission to provide access to the Library’s collections. The Digital Collection Specialist will serve as support on the Library Collections Access Platform (L-CAP) project, the goal of which is to implement a new platform that will replace the ILS and other legacy systems that provide collection access.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will provide assistance to CDMS in a variety of tasks related to the management of Library systems and the implementation of the new Library Collection Access Platform (LCAP). Provide support to project or team leaders for working groups, task forces, or ad hoc groups that have been assigned responsibility for specific tasks related to development and implementation of systems. 

  • Working collaboratively inside and outside the project team and program areas to support the facilitation of institution-wide policies and practices related to enterprise systems
  • Examine CDMS shared drive, Gitlab, JIRA, Confluence, and other information sources
  • Refresh CDMS Confluence presence
  • Create diagrams and visualizations
  • Create brief, useful videos of current processes (such as the use of Voyager add-on apps)
  • Annotate/organize meeting recordings (creating tables of contents or topical guides)
  • Add tags or other structure to Confluence pages and JIRA tickets
  • Compare, analyze, and sync JIRA tasks from projects hosted at the Library versus external projects (i.e., Axiell, FOLIO, etc.)
  • Support daily tasks and build bench support until Voyager retirement
  • Respond to error report emails and correcting invalid LCCNs in individual records
  • Work in MARCEdit to clean/prep small data imports
  • Document existing MARCEdit tasks
  • FOLIO feature exploration
  • Compilation of information about discovery platforms and interesting/desired discovery features
  • Manage permissions for CDMS systems

    6. Hours worked per week; and

Other Qualifications (include job-related training courses; job related skills such as typing speed, computer software/hardware tools, other languages, etc., job-related honors, awards, special accomplishments, publications, memberships in professional or honor societies, leadership activities, and performance awards)

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to the public.  

Work Schedule: Flextime, Monday thru Friday, 40 hours per week. Telework eligible, up to four days per pay period.
