The Library’s Thomas Jefferson Building and all exhibitions will be open for extended hours on Thursdays. Visitors are invited to enjoy happy hour drinks and food available for purchase in the Great Hall and the Jefferson Building’s beautiful architecture while immersing themselves in the Library’s exhibits, collections and programs.
Join us for the kick-off of this year’s series, a screening of “Iron Man” (2008), the first film in what would become known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Run time 2 hours, 4 minutes. Before the film, enjoy a live performance from Batalá Washington, D.C.’s all-women Afro-Brazilian drumming troop, at 7 p.m.

Join us for a “scrumdiddlyumptious” evening, as we screen “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” (1971), starring Gene Wilder and Peter Ostrum. Run time 1 hours, 38 minutes. Before the film, enjoy a pre-recorded performance from the Mingus Dynasty Quintet at 7 p.m.

Join historian Kevin M. Hymel as he discusses his books on the mercurial army general at the height of his military career during World War II. Hymel has researched traditional and newly available sources to offer fresh insights into Patton’s most memorable achievements and infamous lapses.
Ali Doğan Gönültaş Quartet, 150 Years of Music From Kiğı, Turkey

Ali Doğan is a Kurdish-born musician in Turkey. This concert looks at 150-year musical life of the village of Kiğı, Ali's birthplace. It includes the regional languages of Kurmancî, Kırdaskî, Armenian and Turkish, as well as Zazakî, Ali's mother tongue.
Join us for an array of iconic films screenings at the Packard Campus Theater. Programs are free and open to the public. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Seating at the screenings is on a first-come, first-served basis unless otherwise noted.
The Library of Congress will host its annual “Summer Movies on the Lawn” series starting July 6. The series featuring films from the Library’s National Film Registry will be presented Thursday evenings at sundown on the southeast lawn of the Library’s Thomas Jefferson Building. Music will be presented prior to each film, with live performances on July 6, July 20 and Aug. 3.
Join us in the nation’s capital at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, August 12, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (doors open at 8:30 a.m.). If you can't join us in Washington, D.C. for a day of free talks and activities, several programs will be livestreamed, and video of all talks can be viewed online after the Festival concludes.
