Main Reading Room Open Event
Monday, February 20, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. ET
For the federal Washington's Birthday (a.k.a. President's Day) holiday, visitors are invited to walk onto the floor of the Library’s magnificent Main Reading Room and experience the beauty and grandeur of what has been called one of the most beautiful rooms in the nation's capital.
The Library’s Thomas Jefferson Building and all exhibitions will be open for extended hours on Thursdays. Visitors are invited to enjoy happy hour drinks and food available for purchase in the Great Hall and the Jefferson Building’s beautiful architecture while immersing themselves in the Library’s exhibits, collections and programs.
Live! At the Library: African American Folk Music with Jake Blount
Thursday, February 23, 6-7 p.m. ET
A gifted musician and scholar of Black American music, Jake Blount performs on voice, banjo, and fiddle. Drawing repertoire from the collections of the Library’s American Folklife Center (AFC), he highlights Black and Indigenous histories of American folk tunes. AFC worked with other Library programs, and with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, to schedule this concert for African American History Month.
Behind the Scenes: Music from the Washington Men's Camerata
Tuesday, February 21, 1-2 p.m. ET
Join James Wintle of the Music Division in a webinar for a special behind-the-scenes look at the music performed by the Washington Men's Camerata in special online concert.
Join us for an array of iconic films screenings at the Packard Campus Theater. Programs are free and open to the public. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Seating at the screenings is on a first-come, first-served basis unless otherwise noted.
This webinar will provide an overview on the definition of human trafficking under the U.N. protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, and highlight the difference between human trafficking and people smuggling.
