Three New Event Videos From The Kluge Center Now Available

You can now watch three new events that showcase our scholars and the great work they do here at the John W. Kluge Center.

In Democracy and “Common Sense” the Kluge Center’s Director Kevin Butterfield interviewed Chair in Countries and Cultures of the North Sophia Rosenfeld on her work looking at the interaction between conspiracy theories, the concept of “common sense,” and how societies create, share, and validate knowledge throughout history. Butterfield brings his own expertise on the early United States for a conversation on the implications of popular understandings of politics for democracy. Watch here.

In Writing Gaia, the Kluge Center’s Dan Turello interviewed former Baruch S. Blumberg NASA/Library of Congress Chair in Astrobiology, Exploration, and Scientific Innovation and co-editor Sébastien Dutreuil about their forthcoming book on the correspondence of James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis. Together, Lovelock and Margulis developed the Gaia hypothesis, an understanding of the ecological workings of life on Earth that would prove to be highly influential. Watch here.

For Trafficking Data, the Kluge Center’s Andrew Breiner interviewed former Kluge Fellow Aynne Kokas on her book of the same title. In the book and event, Kokas explains and explores current concerns about the Chinese government’s data gathering practices and how they are a part of many products, social media platforms, and games that play major roles in our lives.
