We're grateful for all you do

Happy Thanksgiving one and all. We're grateful to each and every person for each and every line you've transcribed, page you've reviewed or tag you've created. Thanks to all who have organized transcribe-a-thons or review-a-thons, used By the People in their classroom, with their book club, or scout troop.

We hope that By the People can be a source of interest, exploration, and joy this holiday season, whether you're gathering together with friends and family or spending time on your own. Transcription and review are a great way to connect with people in the past and people in your life today.

Bring By the People into your holidays:

  • Spend a quiet evening transcribing November diary entries from Mary Church Terrell's diaries. How did she spend her Thanksgivings over the years as she traveled through America and Europe promoting universal suffrage and civil rights?
  • Review can be a fun two-person activity. Try one person reading the original document aloud, while the other checks the transcription for accuracy -- including original spelling, punctuation, and line breaks. Refresh your memory on the transcription conventions here! Many fascinating pages are still in need of review. Try your hand at the correspondence of women's suffrage leader Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday,

Victoria and the By the People team
