Temporary passwords and BARD Mobile

Dear List Members:

If you are trying to reset your BARD password and are sent a temporary password, you must log in using a web browser, not BARD Mobile. BARD Mobile cannot accept temporary passwords and will give you an error message stating that your password has expired. It hasn’t really expired; this is simply the error message BARD Mobile gives you when you try to log in with a temporary password.

You can use a web browser on your computer, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome on a PC or Safari on a Mac. If you are using an iOS device, such as an iPhone or iPad, you can use Safari. If you are using an Android device, you can use Google Chrome. With any of these web browsers, go to https://nlsbard.loc.gov.

Log in with your temporary password, create a new password that conforms to the password criteria, and, if asked, agree to the BARD pledge. Once you get to the BARD main page using your email address and the new password you created, you can use that same email address and password to log into BARD Mobile.

When you are creating a password that you plan to use with BARD Mobile, please be sure to follow the password rules listed on the BARD website. In addition, make sure that your password does not contain any of the following special characters:

  • Apostrophe
  • Quote
  • Ampersand
  • Percent
  • Less Than
  • Greater Than

Passwords containing these characters work when you log into the BARD website, but not when you log into BARD Mobile.

We hope this information will help you log in more easily.
