THE COPYRIGHT ROYALTY JUDGES SEEK COMMENTS ON MOTION FOR PARTIAL DISTRIBUTION OF 2015 SATELLITE ROYALTY FUNDS
The Copyright Royalty Judges are soliciting comments on a motion by Allocation Phase (formerly Phase I) claimants for a partial (60 percent) distribution of 2015 satellite royalty funds under section 801(b)(3)(C) of the Copyright Act. Specifically, the judges seek to ascertain whether any claimant entitled to receive royalties has a reasonable objection that would preclude the requested distribution. Allocation Phase claimants are the Program Suppliers and the Commercial Broadcaster, Devotional, Joint Sports, and Music Claimants. Respondents must advise the judges of the existence and extent of their objections no later than May 17, 2017. For details, click here.

THE COPYRIGHT ROYALTY JUDGES ISSUE FINAL RULE ON PROCEDURAL REGULATIONS REGARDING FORM AND CONTENT OF FILINGS AND TO ALLOW FOR ELECTRONIC FILING OF DOCUMENTS
The Copyright Royalty Judges are amending and augmenting Copyright Royalty Board procedural regulations governing the form and content of filings, the filing and delivery of documents using the electronic filing system, and related matters. The judges address comments on the proposed rule, which was published November 23, 2016, and issue their final rule. For details, click here.

THE COPYRIGHT ROYALTY JUDGES PROPOSE TO ADOPT NEW RULE AUTHORIZING JUDGES TO BAR CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS AND ENTITIES FROM PARTICIPATING IN PROCEEDINGS BEFORE THE JUDGES
The Copyright Royalty Judges propose to adopt a new Copyright Royalty Board rule that would authorize the judges to bar, either temporarily or permanently, certain individuals and entities from participating in proceedings before the judges as a sanction for violations of standards of conduct. The proposed rule is posted on the CRB’s website and at Regulations.gov. Comments on the proposed rule are due no later than May 22, 2017. For details, click here.

Specifically, the judges seek to ascertain whether any claimant entitled to receive royalties has a reasonable objection that would preclude the requested distribution. Allocation Phase Claimants are Program Suppliers; Joint Sports Claimants; Public Television Claimants; National Association of Broadcasters; American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers; Broadcast Music, Inc.; SESAC, Inc.; Canadian Claimants Group; Devotional Claimants; and National Public Radio.
