COPYRIGHT ROYALTY JUDGES REQUEST COMMENTS ON PROPOSAL TO AMEND RULE REGARDING REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTAIN NONCOMMERCIAL RADIO BROADCAST STATIONS THAT TRANSMIT OVER THE INTERNET USING STATUTORY LICENSES (81 FR 52782)
On June 21, 2016, the Copyright Royalty Judges published a technical amendment to regulations governing reporting requirements for noncommercial educational webcasters that pay no more than the minimum fee for the use of sound recordings under the statutory licenses in sections 112 and 114 of the Copyright Act. Subsequently, interested parties petitioned the judges to further amend the regulations to clarify the judges’ stated intent to include noncommercial minimum fee broadcasters in the updated reporting requirements. In response, the judges propose to amend the rule by revising the definition of “eligible minimum fee webcasters.” Comments on the proposed rule are due no later than September 9, 2016.
