December 10-12, 2018: Discover Global Markets (DGM): Indo-Pacific – Salt Lake City, UT
This US Department of Commerce event will enable U.S. companies to explore sales channels and the project pipeline in the civil aviation, defense, and security sectors across the Indo-Pacific region. Conference sessions and one-on-one meetings will allow U.S. firms to dive deeper into markets of interest and hear from experts on market challenges, sales outlook, and proven strategies for developing partners in Australia, Bangladesh, Burma, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Chicago Trade Specialist Departures
As of mid-September, International Trade Specialist/ Commercial Officers Michael Marangell and Allison Mello have joined/ re-joined the Foreign Commercial Service and will both be posted in Beijing sometime next year after completing their Chinese language training. In addition, International Trade Specialist Vicki Tolefree has retired. As there is currently no authorization for new hiring, their duties are being absorbed by the remaining International Trade Specialists in the Chicago office. Information on $200 Billion of Chinese Imports Subject to Additional Tariffs as o 9/24/18
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released a list of Chinese imports that will be subject to additional tariffs. The additional tariffs will be effective starting September 24, 2018, and initially will be in the amount of 10 percent. Starting January 1, 2019, the level of the additional tariffs will increase to 25 percent. The list contains 5,745 full or partial tariff lines. Information on Foreign Tariff Retaliations
Information about foreign retaliations in response to the U.S. 232 steel and aluminum tariffs is available to the public online at https://www.trade.gov/mas/ian/tradedisputes-enforcement/retaliations/tg_ian_002094.asp. The site has information about when the retaliatory tariffs have gone into effect, links to the official notifications and product lists by the various foreign governments, and a retaliation product coverage matrix, which companies can use to see if their products (at the HS-6 level) are being impacted by any of the retaliatory measures

December 5, 2018: The Latest IP Issues Relating to International Trade- Chicago

Companies in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, supplement, food and beverage, and other relevant industries that source unique ingredients from Brazil should be aware of how Brazil’s new Biodiversity Law may affect their business in terms of fees for access and benefit sharing (ABS). U.S. Commercial Service is offering an opportunity for companies to participate as exhibitors in the Corporate Executive Office (CEO) Program at the upcoming China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) in Shanghai, China, May 2019. The CEO Program is a trade show program designed to off small to medium companies a method of exhibiting at a trade show. This program will be offered at CMEF, the largest medical equipment exhibition in Asia featuring over 4,100 exhibitors from 28 countries and about 120,000 visitors from around the world. Applications are now being accepted for 12 available spots; applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all spots are filled. There is a registration cost of $4,650.
