Market Highlight: China Industrial Parks

China

China is the largest and fastest growing emerging market for environmental technologies. The overall environmental technologies market in China is valued at $65.78 billion in 2017. Addressing environmental concerns will continue to be a priority for the Chinese government for the near future.  However, market barriers, particularly those related to protection of intellectual property, continue to make China a challenging market.

To take advantage of the undeniable opportunities while managing the risks of entering the Chinese market, the U.S. Commercial Service is working hard to identify tangible export opportunities in China’s industrial parks. China has over 7000 industrial parks, which play a crucial role in driving economic development. The 219 national-level industrial parks represent 11% of China’s GDP and 20% of industrial output. Due to their significant impact on the environment, however, industrial parks are under intense scrutiny to address environmental pollution. As the Chinese government aims to achieve eco-industrial development of these parks, only 30% of current industrial parks meet China’s new environmental regulations. Thus, these parks, represent unique and untapped opportunities for U.S. environmental companies. To learn more about how to take advantage of the opportunities industrial parks have to offer or the China environmental technologies market in general, please contact Yolinda Qu at Yolinda.qu@trade.gov.
