Help Solve Export Mysteries: How do I price products for international customers?
Last month's responses to the mystery of dealing with foreign decision-makers who are corrupt and soliciting bribes can be found by clicking here.

This month's mystery is for a local firm that has a significant opportunity to expand its global presence and improve its consumer sales. Their international sales are on the rise and they consider this a prominent marketing channel for improving sales. Executives want to be implement good pricing strategies. The company currently uses a volume pricing model, which benefits its distributors. What pricing strategies have you learned, and what would you advise? Announcement: New CS fee structure, services, and company size standards
Please click here to view a Federal Register Notice that details the upcoming changes to International Trade Administration, Department of Commerce user fees effective on October 1, 2017. As such, the Participation Agreement for a service/event must be both accepted and paid for by September 30, 2017, to be eligible for the old pricing for an event/service occurring after October 1, 2017.

Representing Rural America: CS Fargo's Urban Adventure
U.S. Commercial Service / ND Director and Rural Team Leader Heather Ranck, along with Export Assistant Carter Pedersen, recently attended the SelectUSA Summit in Washington, D.C. June 18-20. This three-day summit focused on attracting foreign direct investment into America. As leader of the Rural Team, Ranck focused on putting Rural America in the minds of investors. From moderating a popular panel entitled "Make It in Rural America," to meeting with interested investors and promoting our new rural focused research initiative RAISE, Ranck was an active advocate for Rural America. Export Documentation Seminar
This upcoming workshop in Sioux Falls, SD will provide local companies a rare opportunity to hear directly from officials with the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and the U.S. Census Bureau International Trade Management Division. 9th Annual Northwest Export Conference: Exporting and the new Administration
The U.S. Commercial Service, Department of Homeland Security, and Seattle University have planned a two-day conference on July 26-27 providing opportunities for participants to:

  • Learn about topics such as export controls, export financing, and how to identify market opportunities
  • Meet one-on-one with experts in international trade and export compliance 
  • Network with fellow attendees

With a new Administration focusing in new directions, this year's conference provides participants with the chance to ask questions and receive the most up-to-date export and compliance information from experts who will be speaking at the seminar.

Agriculture Technology Mission to Israel
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is leading a business mission to Israel September 12-14, 2017 focused on innovation in water and agriculture. This delegation is being organized in cooperation with Israel's Ministry of Economy and Industry. Israel is a world leader in developing advanced technologies in agriculture. This mission will expose delegates to Israel's start-up ecosystem, including visits to technology incubators, agriculture research centers, and meetings with start-up companies and experts.

We will facilitate individualized company-specific meetings with pre-selected and vetted start-up companies in areas based on corporate interest such as:

  • Data-enabled agriculture
  • Automation and robotics in agriculture
  • Food security and traceability
  • New crops, seeds, and genetics
  • Post-harvest (Packaging, shelf life, and crop storage)
  • Indoor farming

The U.S. Commercial Service in Moscow, Russia has organized a trade show aimed at the Travel & Tourism sector. This trade show will provide a unique B2B opportunity to reach out to all key tour operators in Russia.
