Focus On: Latin America Aftermarket

auto parts - spanish

In 2015, the U.S. exported nearly $81 billion in auto parts worldwide. Latin America is a promising region and contributor to this impressive export volume with Peru, Guatemala and El Salvador among the export growth destinations. Demand for aftermarket auto parts from the U.S. and repair services in these three countries has increased due to aging vehicles, poor road conditions, absence of local manufacturers, and favorable tariff rates and market access with the CAFTA-DR free trade agreement. U.S. auto parts exports over the last five years grew 87% in Peru; 19% in Guatemala, and 50% in El Salvador.  Among the products currently in demand are:

•  Motor parts: compressors, radiators, batteries, accumulators, green filters, motor oil, and lubricants;
•  Body and crash parts;
•  Accessories: sound systems, spoilers, bumpers, cleaning products;
•  Safety Products: alarms, GPS systems;
•  Brake systems, suspension and components;
•  Driving simulators; and
•  Tools and diagnostic equipment.

A cost-effective, well-supported means to identify local representation, build market contacts, and engage in business development is to join the automotive trade missions to these markets led by the Auto Care Association, and supported by the U.S. Commercial Service staff in country.  Details on the missions is available at www.autocare.org/trade-missions , or contact Kellie.Holloway@trade.gov.
