Subject:  Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) and Information Returns (IR) Application for Transmitter Control Code (TCC)


Audience: Payroll Industry, Tax Professionals, Small Business and Self Employed, Tax Exempt and Government Entities, Financial Institutions
 
If you are a FIRE customer and you have not completed the IR Application for TCC your legacy TCC is invalid, and you cannot currently file with FIRE. If you attempt to log in to FIRE, without an IR TCC Application you will receive an error message ‘Information provided is not correct’
 
Please avoid calling the help desk, as it cannot provide any additional information and call volumes are very high.
 
To complete an IR application for TCC
  • Validate your identity using ID.me, the current IRS Credential Service Provider (CSP).
  • Log into the IR Application for TCC on IRS.gov.
  • After logging in, go to the Online Tutorials tab for step-by-step instructions. 
  • Complete the online application.
Note: Until the application is in ‘Completed’ status, you must select ‘Individual’ on the ‘Select Your Organization’ page. 
 
Completed IR Application for TCC
If you have an IR Application for TCC, verify the application is in ‘completed’ status and a TCC has been assigned. When logging into FIRE be sure to enter your EIN, TCC, and legal business name exactly as it appears on the application.
