4.  News from the Justice Department’s Tax Division

A federal court in the Western District of Michigan has permanently barred married couple Rosa Linda Meyer, aka Rosa Linda Hernandez, and Stanley Meyer from preparing returns for others and from owning, operating or franchising any tax return preparation business in the future.

John Savignano, a certified public accountant of White Plains, N.Y., pleaded guilty to conspiring with a small business owner to defraud the IRS. According to court documents, Savignano conspired with co-defendant Rocco Manzione, who owned and operated several companies that sold concrete, to evade the assessment of individual income taxes. Savignano is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 27, 2022, and faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. He also faces a period of supervised release, restitution and monetary penalties.
