1.  Registration Deadline Is Aug. 15 for Las Vegas IRS Nationwide Tax Forum

The standard registration rate for the upcoming IRS Nationwide Tax Forum in Las Vegas expires Tuesday Aug. 15. Tax professionals who register by the deadline pay $255 for the three-day event. After the deadline registrants will be charged $370.

The Las Vegas Tax Forum takes place Aug. 29-31. Attendees can earn up to 18 continuing education credits, bring tough cases to the case resolution program, and meet with dozens of vendors who support tax professionals. For more information and to register, visit www.irstaxforum.com.

3.  IRS Issuing Notices to Taxpayers whose ITINs Expire this Year

The IRS began mailing letters this month to more than one million taxpayers with expiring Individual Taxpayer ‎Identification Numbers, urging recipients to renew now to avoid tax refund and processing delays.

4.  Form 2290, Heavy Vehicle Highway Use Return, Is Due Aug. 31; IRS Webinar Helps You Prepare

Federal highway use tax returns for truckers or owners of heavy highway vehicles are due, in most cases, at the end of this month.

To help tax pros prepare these returns, IRS is offering “Reminders for Form 2290, Heavy Vehicle Highway Use Tax Return,” a web presentation on Aug. 15 and 16 at 2 pm ET or 11 am PT. The free, 30-minute presentation will cover federal highway use tax responsibilities, best practices for filing and obtaining IRS-stamped Schedule 1, the advantages of e-filing Form 2290 and resources for the trucking industry.
