The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook has updated the Community Health Workers (CHW) profile. HRSA helped inform the update as part of an interagency initiative to address long-term CHW sustainability through novel, whole-of-government solutions.
The new standalone CHW profile better reflects the core duties, competencies, and training and employment sites. While the profile focuses on CHWs, it also mentions other professions such as peer support specialists, community health representatives, and promotores de salud for the first time. They are included in the CHW Standardized Occupational Classification (SOC) code.
In fiscal year 2022, HRSA awarded more than $225.5 million to 83 organizations through Community Health Worker Training Program grants.

October 15 – HRSA observed National Latinx HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This day is an opportunity to highlight the disproportionate impact of HIV on Hispanic/Latino/(a) communities, promote HIV testing, increase access to prevention, care and treatment services, and stop HIV stigma.
Nearly 25% of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program clients are Hispanic/Latino(a). Among Hispanic/Latino(a) clients receiving medical care through the program in 2021, 91.4% were virally suppressed, which is a significant increase from 73.6% virally suppressed in 2010. This means they cannot sexually transmit HIV to their partners and can live longer and healthier lives.
