Disability Pride Month |
In July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month. This month recognizes the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which President George H.W. Bush signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA is a federal law that bans discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
The ADA was created in response to the lack of protections for individuals with disabilities in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Moreover, the Act closed the gap on the limited protection for individuals with disabilities in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (ADA.gov).
Disabilities can affect individuals in different ways and take many different forms, both visible and invisible. At MCHB, we can honor Disability Pride Month by becoming strong allies and learning how to better support the disability community.
You can become a Disability Ally by doing the following:
-
Acknowledge and respect individual experiences and abilities
-
Learn about different disability types
-
Leverage your influence to promote accessibility and inclusion
-
Yield the floor to people with disabilities to help identify and eliminate barriers

CCT Corner |
MCHB’s Change Champion Team (CCT) meets monthly and, with all Divisions and Offices represented, thoughtfully guides Strategic Plan Progress. Members provide feedback, share progress, and get input from their Division and Office colleagues.
In June the CCT learned about an ongoing project to assess MCHB’s capacity to surveil, forecast, and respond with agility to emerging MCH issues such as natural disasters, infectious diseases, and policy issues. This work derived from one of the objectives under the MCHB Strategic Plan CAPACITY goal – to advance MCH population-specific preparation for and responses to public health emergencies and emerging issues.
The CCT provided input and support to prioritize next steps to identify potential tool(s) and draft a plan for emerging issue response.
Reach out to CCT members with any questions!

DGIS Updates |
Recent Release:
The DGIS dashboards and datamart were updated on June 22, 2023. For questions about datamart updates, including implications for flat-files, please reach out to Alicia Vooris. For questions about dashboard updates, please reach out to Sara Woody.
Please note the dashboards are set to default with approved, NCCPR and PPER reports for FY2023. This means for the next few months, many of the dashboards will show “No Data” when you land on them. To view data, filters can be used to show an earlier FY, NCPR reports, and/or different report status (like “Review In Progress”).
Upcoming Release:
The lock-unlock feature for POs in DGIS will be enhanced on July 27, 2023. The lock-unlock resource (pdf) is being updated and will be sent to all POs via email when ready. It will also be posted to the DGIS SharePoint site. This enhancement includes use of a toggle/slider instead of the lock-unlock button, as well as clear identification if a form is locked or unlocked on the Status page of a report.
The July 27, 2023 release will also introduce new DGIS report due date reminder emails (30 day, 7 day, and past due) to awardees and POs. More information will be provided as the release date approaches.

Reminders |
Take the FEVS by July 14!
The new EHB login process is live!
Applicants, Awardees, Service Providers, Consultants, and TAs must now use Login.gov and two-factor authentication when logging into the EHBs.
Please take a moment to check in with your awardees and make sure they have registered for their Login.gov account. Awardees should not wait until it is time to submit a report or perform a task in EHB, as this could lead to frustration if they need assistance. Awardees should create or verify their Login.gov account today if they have not already done so.
Tips and resources for awardees:
- Create a Login.gov (Create your account) account with the same email address you use to log into the EHBs.
- If you already have a Login.gov account, verify the account is active and uses the same email address used to log into the EHBs.
-
EHB wiki which walks users through the process.
