HHS #VaxUpAmerica

Health Centers Invited to Participate in #VaxUpAmerica Efforts
HHS is working with national and community-based organizations to reach families where they are with information on COVID-19 vaccines. HHS will host pop-up vaccination events and distribute toolkits at venues such as Head Start provider locations, nursing homes, and health centers around the country.

If you’d like to partner with HHS to host a new or already planned #VaxUpAmerica Family Vaccine Day event in your community, let us know by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, November 18. HHS’s involvement might bring a local or national HHS official to support and promote the event. Contact us at healthcenterstories@hrsa.gov with details about your event, including:

  • Health center name and address.
  • Event point of contact name, phone number, and email.
  • Brief description of the event and location.

If HHS is available to partner with you, someone from the Department will reach out.

The #VaxUpAmerica Family Vaccine Tour is a nationwide push to encourage families to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine for maximum protection going into the winter and holiday season. It followed President Joe Biden’s announcement of Additional Efforts to Help Americans Get Their Free, Updated COVID-19 Vaccine This Fall.

If you missed it, ACF, CMS, and HHS hosted a kickoff event featuring HHS principals and special presentations from trusted messengers on the updated COVID-19 vaccinations and department-wide efforts. You can watch and share the recording. HHS also provides resources that can support your efforts to get your community vaccinated against COVID-19.

Diabetes in Special & Vulnerable Populations: National Learning Series
All 14 National Training and Technical Assistance Partners (NTTAPs) will collaborate again for a four-part national learning series to engage health centers, Primary Care Associations, and Health Center Controlled Networks and to increase foundational knowledge of effective strategies to prevent, treat, and manage diabetes among special and medically underserved populations.

Participants will explore diabetes management in relation to the following topics: 1) Social determinants of health (SDOH) and structural barriers; 2) intersectional identities of health center workforce and patients; 3) emergency preparedness; and 4) environmental impacts on access to care.

Visit the series information page for more information and registration links.

New Health Center Stories Posted
Our Health Center Stories webpage highlights the strides HRSA-supported health centers have made to promote public health in underserved areas. Check out these new stories on the page:

  • COVID-19 Response: With drastic growth in the need for behavioral health services, Families Together of Orange County (CA) has sought to empower patients to take control of their health through an integrated health model that combines medical and wellness services.

  • Community Outreach: Su Clinica (TX) held special family events to reconnect with patients, including a Halloween 2021 bash and a Spring into Summer event earlier this year. The events helped staff develop a list of patients who were behind in vaccinations, leading to an increase in human papillomavirus vaccination rates among girls and women.

Share Your Story
Has your health center tried innovative approaches to improve patient care? Do you have a success story you’d like to share with other health centers? Send your stories to HRSA Health Center Stories for possible promotion in HRSA communications. We are particularly interested in stories about:

  • Pediatric clinics for COVID-19 boosters and flu shots
  • Behavioral health
  • Workforce well-being

Recordings Available: 2022 Uniform Data System TA Webinar Series
Access the recordings of the 2022 Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting webinars in the UDS Training and TA section of our website. These addressed how to count visits and complete clinical, financial, and operations tables in the UDS. They also include strategies for successful UDS report submissions, opportunities for quality improvement, and COVID-19 impacts across measures.

Our website also includes additional webinar recordings and presentation slides, the 2022 UDS Manual, and other TA resources.

Monkeypox Updates
Monkeypox vaccination remains a critical public health priority. HHS recommends encouraging eligible patients to get vaccinated and to offer alternative options for vaccine administration sites to address vaccine confidence. CDC recommends conducting HIV and STI screening for people with confirmed or suspected monkeypox, as people who are immunocompromised are at higher risk for severe manifestations of monkeypox.

Visit HRSA’s Monkeypox Information webpage and CDC’s What’s New and Updated page (part of its monkeypox website) for the latest information. If you have further questions, contact CDC’s Monkeypox Response Clinical Escalations Team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by email at eocevent482@cdc.gov, or by phone at 770-488-7100.

COVID-19

Single-dose Vials of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Bivalent Booster Available to Order
As of Monday, November 14, health centers may order single-dose vials of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccines for people aged 12 and older. This option responds to widespread requests to allow greater flexibility for health centers in rural areas or health centers that may not have the demand or capacity to store multi-dose vials.

Health centers will be able to order this product through their state/jurisdiction or through the Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program.

There is no ordering through the HRSA Health Center COVID-19 Response Programs next week. See the impact in a one-page summary of holiday-related schedule changes for participants.
