Deadline Extended: Service Area Competition Applications for January 1 Starts HRSA extended the deadline for Service Area Competition (SAC) HRSA-23-018 applications for January 1 starts. Applications are now due in HRSA’s Electronic Handbooks (EHBs) by 5:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 11. This will allow HRSA to fix an error in EHBs on Form 1A: General Information Worksheet during the evening of Thursday, July 28. TA materials are available on the SAC TA webpage.
DUE TUESDAY: Primary Health Care Prize Challenge Submissions Phase 1 submissions for HRSA’s Building Bridges to Better Health: A Primary Health Care Challenge are due Tuesday, August 2. Challenge participants will accelerate the development of low-cost, scalable solutions to help health centers improve patient access to primary care and strengthen the link between health care and social services.
The competition is open to broad public participation, including individuals, groups, health care organizations, and other entities. Visit Challenge.gov to submit your solution.

Fiscal Year 2021 HRSA Fact Sheets and Fact Sheet Maps HRSA’s fiscal year (FY) 2021 fact sheets and fact sheet maps are now available. Along with this release, Data by Geography, Find Grants, and Data Explorer now have the ratified FY 2021 HRSA-awarded grants data.
As part of this project, the Office of Information Technology collaborated with all bureaus and offices to define the narratives and produce summary reports of the grant award totals for each FY at the national, regional, state, county, and Congressional District levels.

CDC Recommends Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine for Adults On Tuesday, July 19, CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended the use of Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine for adult patients (ages 18 and older) for primary series vaccination. See the CDC statement. This recommendation is in line with FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization of the vaccine for this age group.
A limited supply of Novavax is available for Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program participants. They can make a one-time order of one package (100 doses) per health center site.

Tobacco Cessation for Persons of Reproductive Age, Including Pregnant Persons HRSA’s webinar will focus on strategies and tools for implementing tobacco cessation interventions and treatment for persons of reproductive age, including pregnant tobacco users. Dr. LaKesha Lawrence, OB/GYN and women’s health expert at Milwaukee Health Services, Inc.*, will share challenges and best practices, including helpful tools and resources. CMS and CDC will present national and regional data snapshots of tobacco cessation screening and management. Health centers should be able to develop individual strategies to improve efforts to meet tobacco screening and treatment goals.

CDC Vital Signs: Drug Overdose Deaths, by Selected Sociodemographic and Social Determinants of Health Characteristics A new CDC report found that, from 2019 to 2020, overdose death rates increased by 44% and 39% among non-Hispanic Black and non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native persons, respectively.

Affordable Connectivity Program Patients and providers can maximize cost savings on internet bills. The Affordable Connectivity Program and Lifeline are federal programs that help eligible households pay for internet services and internet-connected devices.
Eligible families who pair their benefit with one of the partnered internet providers can receive high-speed internet at no cost. Households may be eligible for both programs, and combine with other state and local benefits where available.

- Practical tools to recruit, train, and place fellows into permanent roles in a health center.
Administrative fellowship programs offer a pipeline for administrative and operations leaders who come from a health systems, health management, and advanced administration backgrounds. NACHC and Community Health Center, Inc., developed this resource; both are HRSA-funded NTTAPs.
