Dear Colleagues,
I am thrilled to announce that we will be welcoming Carole Johnson back to HRSA in January as our new Administrator.
Carole currently serves as the Testing Coordinator for the White House COVID-19 Response Team. She has led efforts to enable access to COVID-19 tests at pharmacies, medical offices, nursing homes, schools, community health centers, Rural Health Clinics, homes, and other community sites throughout the country, among other key responsibilities. Prior to joining the Biden-Harris Administration, Carole served as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Human Services, where she oversaw Medicaid, food assistance, child care programs, and mental health and addiction services, with a focus on increasing equity and reducing racial disparities in infant and maternal health.
Carole served for more than five years as the White House Domestic Policy Council’s public health lead in the Obama Administration, which included overseeing HRSA issues, and has managed health workforce policy issues in HRSA’s Bureau of Health Professions. She has also worked on health care and public health policy on Capitol Hill, in academia, and in the non-profit and philanthropy sectors.
I have personally had the privilege of working closely with Carole, and I know that she has deep knowledge of HRSA’s programs, a steadfast commitment to HRSA’s mission, and firsthand appreciation of our incredible workforce.
As HRSA looks forward to a new year with a new Administrator, I hope you have an opportunity to rest and recharge during this holiday season.
Thank you, Diana Espinosa Acting Administrator
