UDS Quick Guide

UDS Quick Guide for Health Centers
As part of the 2019 UDS Data Standard Updates, HRSA introduced a requirement that certain health centers track those patients who report living in permanent supportive housing.

This UDS Quick Guide created by the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) describes how the UDS offers insight into the important operations of health centers. CSH is a HRSA-funded National Training and Technical Assistance Partner (NTTAP).

COVID-19

Promoting Vaccine Confidence in Local Communities through Partnership with Regional Health Offices
HHS’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy announces the availability of funds. This initiative seeks to expand traditional immunization partnerships to plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based practices and develop novel approaches to increase confidence in vaccines in local communities, particularly partnerships with minority-serving or other advocacy organizations that work with populations with low vaccination rates. See the Notice of Funding Opportunity for more details.

Renters Assistance Resource
The federal moratorium on evictions expires at the end of July. This rental assistance handout from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau can help your patients who are renters. Also available in Spanish.

American Rescue Plan Tax Credit for Paid Leave Due to COVID-19
The American Rescue Plan allows small and midsize employers, and certain governmental employers, to claim refundable tax credits that reimburse them for the cost of providing paid sick and family leave to their employees due to COVID-19, including leave taken by employees to receive or recover from COVID-19 vaccinations. These tax credits are available to eligible employers for wages paid for sick and family leave from Thursday, April 1, 2021, through Thursday, September 30, 2021. Learn more.

Reminder: COVID-19 Survey Due Today
The Health Center and Look-Alike COVID-19 Survey, including the addendum for Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program participants, is now biweekly—meaning that you will receive it every two weeks instead of every week. The survey you received on Friday, July 16, is due today. The Survey User Guide reflects the change to biweekly.

As a reminder, Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program participants are required to complete this survey, including the addendum.

Behavioral Health

DATA 2000 Waiver Training Payment Program
We are accepting applications for payment from FQHCs and RHCs employing buprenorphine waivered providers under a new program, the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000) Waiver Training Payment Program. This program gives FQHCs and RHCs the opportunity to apply for a $3,000 payment for each eligible employed provider who attained a DATA 2000 waiver on or after January 1, 2019.

There is no application deadline, but funds are limited and will be paid on a first-come, first-served basis until all available funds are exhausted. We are collaborating with SAMSHA to process these applications. Watch a video on how to apply, and access FAQs.

Supporting Patients in Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery through Social Services and Telehealth Peer Coaching in Rural South Dakota
This session is part of HRSA’s Telebehavioral Health Web Series. Telehealth is especially important in rural areas for engaging and sustaining patients in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery support services. In particular, accessing services that address social determinants of health (SDOH) and engaging in peer coaching via telehealth can be invaluable to patients’ success in SUD treatment and recovery.

Integrating Behavioral Health and Oral Health Learning Collaborative
The National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) invites health centers to examine ways to integrate behavioral health and oral health. The goal is to improve the overall health of health center patients. Participants will use the “User’s Guide for Implementation of Interprofessional Oral Health Core Clinical Competencies” as a framework for implementing behavioral health screenings in the dental clinic. Apply by 8:00 p.m. ET on Monday, August 2. NNOHA is a HRSA-funded NTTAP.

Mapping Patient Journeys in Drug Addiction Treatment Challenge
NIH’s National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) invites health centers (organizations, teams, or individuals) to participate in a new challenge that has cash prizes totaling $100,000. The goal is to create actionable patient journey maps that might further the understanding of the obstacles that patients face in getting treatment for drug addiction. NIDA invites participants to identify specific points during the patient journey where patients encounter the most difficulty, enabling NIDA to focus new research efforts into alleviating those areas of difficulty in patients’ drug addiction treatment journeys.

Youth Tobacco Cessation: Considerations for Clinicians
With support from CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics published this brief, practical guide to support pediatric health clinicians in screening patients for tobacco use and providing behavioral and pharmacological support to help youth quit. The resource uses an easy, three-step model to guide clinical interactions around cessation. Topics covered also include behavioral and pharmacological cessation supports and use of the electronic health record to identify and address tobacco use.

Workforce

Community Health Worker/Peer Workforce: Recruiting and Hiring for SDOH Screening
Draw upon lessons learned from health centers that have successfully hired, trained, integrated, and retained Community Health Workers (CHWs) and peers with lived experience. This guide provides best practices developed through interviews and research, focused on the CHW and peer role in SDOH screening and addressing related disparities, like the impacts of COVID-19. These lessons can inform your health center’s work to address and eliminate SDOH-associated health disparities that impact the most vulnerable communities. The guide is a joint effort of several HRSA-funded NTTAPs: MHP Salud, CSH, and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council (NHCHC).

Additional Resources

Becoming a Health Center Program Look-Alike
This four-module, self-paced online course developed by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) can help organizations determine if becoming a Health Center Program look-alike is the right path. Participants will learn how to define eligibility, application requirements, and timeline for look-alike initial designation, and how to demonstrate organizational and operational readiness in their applications. NACHC is a HRSA-funded NTTAP.

Being a Leader vs. Being a Boss
These self-paced eLearning modules developed by NACHC examine the key differences between serving as a leader and operating as a boss. The modules focus on strategy, communication styles, delegation, and other key areas of leadership. This updated resource allows participants to learn at their own pace and brainstorm ideas with peers.
