HRSA BPHC Primary Health Care Digest

November 26, 2019

Jim Macrae

Dear Colleagues,

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to express on behalf of the entire bureau how thankful we are for the work you do every day to support the health and well-being of your communities.

This year I’ve been fortunate to visit many of your health centers. There are many differences between them, often based on size or location. But I’ve also seen a constant: dedication. All of you are working extremely hard to improve the health of our nation’s underserved populations. Your commitment inspires and humbles us here at BPHC. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work with organizations like yours.

I encourage you to take time to reflect on the tremendous impact you make on the lives of your patients and on your communities. I hope that you enjoy a wonderful holiday with friends and family.

Wishing you a safe, healthy, and happy Thanksgiving.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Jim Macrae
HRSA Associate Administrator
Bureau of Primary Health Care

HRSA Administrator Speaks at National Advisory Council on Migrant Health Meeting
HRSA Administrator Tom Engels commended the work of the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health, which recently met at HRSA headquarters. “HRSA recognizes and appreciates your contribution to the community,” Engels said. Established by Congress in 1975, the Council works to keep HRSA and other HHS agencies informed about emerging issues affecting migratory and seasonal agricultural workers and their families.

The Health Center Program serves close to a million migratory and seasonal agricultural worker patients annually. Engels emphasized the program’s contribution to HRSA’s goal of expanding care to underserved populations in rural areas, adding, “Everyone should have access to individualized health care that meets their needs and budgets.”
