We encourage you to use it along with the Site Visit Protocol and other site visit-related resources available on our website to support a successful and smooth site visit.

HRSA Administrator Speaks at National Advisory Council on Migrant Health Meeting HRSA Administrator Tom Engels commended the work of the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health, which recently met at HRSA headquarters. “HRSA recognizes and appreciates your contribution to the community,” Engels said. Established by Congress in 1975, the Council works to keep HRSA and other HHS agencies informed about emerging issues affecting migratory and seasonal agricultural workers and their families.
The Health Center Program serves close to a million migratory and seasonal agricultural worker patients annually. Engels emphasized the program’s contribution to HRSA’s goal of expanding care to underserved populations in rural areas, adding, “Everyone should have access to individualized health care that meets their needs and budgets.”
HRSA-Wide Approach to Address Intimate Partner Violence Published in Public Health Reports A recent article in Public Health Reports describes the development and early implementation of The HRSA Strategy to Address Intimate Partner Violence, 2017-2020. It highlights key features of an integrated approach to address intimate partner violence across HRSA programs and offers recommendations for implementing similar efforts.
Final Week: AHRQ Safety Program for Improving Antibiotic Use The AHRQ Safety Program for Improving Antibiotic Use is a one-year national program that will provide ambulatory clinics with expert coaching, online education and improvement tools, patient education materials, antibiotic use guidelines, and more to help you prevent harms associated with antibiotic resistance, such as Clostridioides difficile infections. Enroll by this Friday, November 29. The program kicks off in December.

Health Professionals Receive Free MAT Training, DATA 2000 Waivers HRSA’s National Health Service Corps (NHSC) has teamed up with SAMHSA's Provider Clinical Support System (PCSS) to connect any qualified medical and behavioral health providers to free medication-assisted treatment training, professional development resources, and an opportunity to obtain the DATA 2000 Waiver. This collaboration helps increase access to quality substance use disorder and opioid use disorder treatment in hard hit rural and underserved communities throughout the U.S. Learn more.

New Promising Practice: Grace Health Engages Families in Get Fit Diabetes Education Program Grace Health serves over 30,000 patients in Battle Creek, MI. As part of their diabetes efforts, they created the Family Get Fit program. The health center hosts classes with nutrition and physical fitness education for the entire family, including a weekly challenge to win prizes. Read more.

Diabetes in Special and Vulnerable Populations To celebrate National Diabetes Awareness Month, the Special and Vulnerable Populations Diabetes Task Force reminds you that you can access webinar recordings, slides, and resources from the national learning series held earlier this year. Fourteen HRSA-funded National Cooperative Agreements (NCAs) partnered to deliver the four-part national learning webinar series for health centers, Primary Care Associations, and Health Center Controlled Networks. The program increased foundational knowledge of effective strategies to prevent, treat, and manage diabetes for health center patients. The next national learning series will launch in February 2020. Telehealth
HRSA Telehealth Learning Series: Expanding HIV Prevention Efforts and Treatment Through Telehealth Speakers from the Iowa Department of Public Health/NuCara Pharmacy and Medical Advocacy and Outreach will discuss issues rural Americans face in accessing HIV care and the opportunities that telemedicine provides to extend services in a way that addresses barriers to care that are unique to this population. They will also discuss ways to leverage existing infrastructures to extend services and use telehealth in place of traditional service delivery models. For more information, contact Nancy Rios.

Adolescent Health ECHO The School-Based Health Alliance, a HRSA-funded NCA, presents an Adolescent Health ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes). This opportunity is for primary care or behavioral health providers, clinic nurses, medical assistants, and health educators. Participants will work and learn virtually with other health centers. Faculty will lead exploration of topics including adolescent-friendly environments, preventive health care, behavioral health, and sexual/reproductive health. There will be eight, 1.5-hour, CE-accredited sessions from January to April 2020. Learn more and apply by Friday, November 29.
