Oral Health Infrastructure Technical Assistance Webinar HHS recently awarded more than $85 million to help health centers improve access to oral health care. Oral Health Infrastructure (OHI) awards will support physical and organizational infrastructure investments, such as minor alterations and renovations, equipment purchases, training, and health information technology that enhance integrated oral health services.

Service Area Competition Notice of Funding Opportunity Released for June 1 Starts HRSA released the fiscal year 2020 Service Area Competition (SAC) Notice of Funding Opportunity, HRSA-20-020. This competition is for service areas with a June 1, 2020, project period start date (current project period end date of May 31, 2020). Current award recipients should refer to box 6 of the most recent Notice of Award to obtain their project period end date.
Applications are due in Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, December 2, and in HRSA’s Electronic Handbooks (EHBs) by 5:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. TA materials are available on the SAC TA webpage.

Food Insecurity: How to Screen Patients and Connect Those in Need to Food Resources Food insecurity affects more than 40 million people in the U.S. This HRSA webinar will highlight how health care organizations that serve vulnerable populations can effectively identify and address the problem. AHRQ Safety Program for Improving Antibiotic Use The AHRQ Safety Program for Improving Antibiotic Use is a one-year national program that will provide ambulatory clinics with expert coaching, online education and improvement tools, patient education materials, antibiotic use guidelines, and more to help you prevent harms associated with antibiotic resistance, such as Clostridioides difficile infections. By participating, your staff will have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits. The program kicks off on December, but you should enroll now. Exploring Resources and Treatment Models for Hepatitis C Virus and Opioid Use Disorder The National Nurse-Led Care Consortium, a HRSA-funded National Cooperative Agreement (NCA), presents a learning collaborative focused on the intersection of opioid use disorder (OUD) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Presenters will review HCV testing and treatment models from various health settings and locations and discuss how programs have started to integrate substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, specific to the opioid crisis. Participants in the virtual learning collaborative will attend four learning sessions consisting of live web-based platform training and facilitated optional office hours on Tuesdays beginning this month through early December. Two Weeks Left: Opportunity for Input to CMS Action Plan on Pain Management and SUD CMS has issued a Request for Information (RFI) asking for public comment on ways to address the treatment of acute and chronic pain, and the treatment of SUD including OUD. Comments are due by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, October 11.
This action is required by the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act (SUPPORT Act). CMS is developing an action plan to include a review of Medicare and Medicaid payment and coverage policies for SUD, and the treatment of acute and chronic pain, emphasizing treatment that minimizes the risk of opioid misuse and OUD. The RFI also requests comment on associated topics including data collection, special populations, and technologies and telehealth.

Strategies for Addressing Maternal Depression Through Primary Care and Home Visiting Partnerships
Last week, HRSA hosted a webinar on how primary care and home visiting partnerships can enhance efforts to prevent, identify, and treat maternal depression. The presentation featured maternal depression expert Dr. Darius Tandon; speakers from HRSA partner the Education Development Center; and primary care providers and home visitors working together on this issue in their communities. Request for Proposals: MAT-LINK Funding Opportunity The Public Health Informatics Institute, in collaboration with CDC, has released a request for proposals for the MATernaL and Infant NetworK to Understand Outcomes Associated with Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder during Pregnancy (MAT-LINK). The goal of MAT-LINK is to establish a surveillance network to collect data on maternal, infant, and child health outcomes associated with treatments for opioid use disorder during pregnancy. Funding will be awarded to clinical sites that have the ability to integrate or link maternal and newborn data and the authority to access and share the data with CDC.
All proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, November 15. Applicants may send in questions prior to Friday, October 4, and there will be a pre-proposal webinar for interested applicants:

New Promising Practice: Improving Oral Health in Rural Colorado Dental sealants prevent 80% of cavities in children. One of the UDS clinical quality measures reported annually for each HRSA-funded health center is the percent of children ages 6-9 years that received dental sealants. OHI Webinar Series The National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA), a HRSA-funded NCA, is offering a series of webinars on strategies for oral health infrastructure enhancements.
This webinar series is a companion to the NNOHA OHI Toolkit released in April. The webinars will highlight health centers who have completed infrastructure enhancements and expansion of their dental programs to increase access to oral health care. Each session offers 1.0 Continuing Dental Education credit.

Primary Palliative Care The National Center for Equitable Care for Elders, a HRSA-funded NCA, presents a learning collaborative about palliative care. Content focuses on building participants’ skills in communicating with patients who have a serious illness, and developing strategies to meet their unmet palliative needs, with an emphasis on dementia care.
