Proposed Changes to the Calendar Year 2020 Uniform Data System: Comments Due by September 24 HRSA seeks comments on proposed changes to the 2020 Uniform Data System (UDS), which Health Center Program awardees and look-alikes will be required to report in February 2021. The deadline for comments on the proposed changes is Tuesday, September 24.

Final Week: Apply to Become a Certified Application Counselor Designated Organization for Plan Year 2020 CMS invites organizations that would like to become Certified Application Counselor Designated Organizations (CDOs) to submit an application by Monday, September 16. Any organization seeking to use certified application counselors to provide enrollment assistance to consumers for plan year 2020 must be a certified CDO. CMS Awards $10 Million in 2019 Navigator Cooperative Agreement Awards CMS awarded $10 million in funding through the Navigator Cooperative Agreement Awards to 34 organizations that serve as Navigators in Federally-Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) states. A number of PCAs and health centers are among the awardees. These awards will support the work of organizations that assist consumers in searching, shopping for, and enrolling in health coverage for 2020. The 2020 Open Enrollment Period runs from Friday, November 1, to Sunday, December 15.
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Update The task force recently published a final recommendation statement and evidence summary on medication use to reduce risk of breast cancer. The task force recommends that clinicians offer to prescribe risk-reducing medications, such as tamoxifen, raloxifene, or aromatase inhibitors, to women who are at increased risk for breast cancer and at low risk for adverse medication effects.

National Health Service Corps Partners with SAMHSA’s Providers Clinical Support System A new partnership between HRSA’s National Health Service Corps and SAMHSA’s Providers Clinical Support System connects qualified clinicians to free medication-assisted treatment training and professional development resources, and the opportunity to obtain the DATA 2000 Waiver. This will increase access to quality SUD and opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment in rural and underserved areas. Learn more about the collaboration.

Syringe Service Programs – State and Local Perspectives on the Role of Policy, Funding, and Partnerships This webinar, hosted by HHS’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, will use examples from state government to showcase effective implementation of syringe services programs (SSPs) through policy and practice. Presenters will highlight experiences in gaining statewide support and community buy-in, crafting policy and bringing it to practice, and building strong partnerships with local communities to support SSP growth.

Do You Need Help Connecting to Your State Prescription Drug Monitoring Program? The Institute for Intergovernmental Research presents Office Hours with the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Training and TA Center (TTAC)! The PDMP TTAC at Brandeis University (funded by the Justice Department) provides comprehensive services and resources to help support the use and effectiveness of PDMPs in combating the misuse and diversion of prescription drugs.
This interactive session with PDMP experts will introduce the center and its resources, provide an overview on how to get connected to your state PDMP, and discuss PMDP and electronic health record integration. Experts will be available to answer participant questions and there will be an opportunity to request additional PDMP assistance for your health center.

Substance Use Warmline Office Hours: Evaluation and Management of Perinatal OUD Experts from the HRSA-supported Substance Use Warmline—a free, telephone consultation service available to health centers that provide integrated behavioral health services—will discuss best practices on providing care for pregnant women with OUD and approaches to addressing neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome. Warmline experts will also share methods for supporting health center clinical staff regarding the evaluation and management of OUD in pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Hepatitis B and the Opioid Epidemic: Opportunities to Increase Adult Vaccination A recording of this webinar—hosted by the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) in July—is now available. Speakers focused on strategies to prevent and eliminate Hepatitis B as a U.S. public health threat, particularly among special and vulnerable populations impacted by the opioid epidemic. AAPCHO is a HRSA-funded National Cooperative Agreement (NCA).
HIV
Oral Health and Primary Care Integration Technical Assistance Toolkit Oral health care is a common unmet need among people with HIV. Based on the experiences of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) providers, HRSA’s new toolkit contains strategies for assessing and reducing risk of oral health disease, building oral health care provider networks and referral processes, and supporting clients through patient navigation. These tools can benefit providers using multiple care approaches, from those providing oral health services onsite to those referring clients out to external dentists.

The National Diabetes Prevention Program: Where We Are, Where We’re Going Join a webinar presenting the results of a national scan of PCA stakeholders around implementation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP). This webinar is co-hosted by two HRSA-funded NCAs, the National Nurse-Led Care Consortium and AAPCHO, and features speakers from those organizations, CDC, and HRSA, among others. These speakers will provide resources to address areas of need identified in the scan results.

Shortage Designation Modernization Project: Auto-HPSA National Update Last week, HRSA’s Bureau of Health Workforce updated all automatically designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (Auto-HPSAs). With this update, the Auto-HPSAs are now—and for the first time—scored electronically instead of manually, streamlining the process and ensuring that all HPSAs nationwide are in a single online system.
All Auto-HPSA organizations have the opportunity to submit rescore requests via the online Auto-HPSA portal.
HRSA will use updated scores for the fiscal year 2020 NHSC Loan Repayment Program application cycle, which will open in February 2020.
