Deadline Reminder: Service Area Competition Applications for February 1 Starts Service Area Competition (SAC) applications for service areas with a February 1, 2020, project period start date (HRSA-20-016) are due in HRSA’s Electronic Handbooks (EHBs) by 5:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 4. Technical assistance (TA) materials are available on the SAC TA webpage.

Do You Need Help Connecting to Your State Prescription Drug Monitoring Program? The Institute for Intergovernmental Research presents Office Hours with the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Training and TA Center (TTAC)! The PDMP TTAC at Brandeis University (which is funded by the Justice Department) provides comprehensive services and resources to help support the use and effectiveness of PDMPs in combating the misuse and diversion of prescription drugs.
This interactive session with PDMP experts will introduce the center and its resources, provide an overview on how to get connected to your state PDMP, and discuss PMDP and electronic health record integration. Experts will be available to answer participant questions and there will be an opportunity to request additional PDMP assistance for your health center.

Opioids and Children and Adolescents: Information for Oral Health Professionals Funded by HRSA, the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center released a new publication: Opioids and Children and Adolescents: Information for Oral Health Professionals. It provides best practices for pain management following dental care in children and adolescents, including drugs to recommend before prescribing opioids and information about prescribing opioids with caution and being aware of the potential for misuse or abuse.

The National Diabetes Prevention Program: Where We Are, Where We’re Going Join a webinar presenting the results of a national scan of PCA stakeholders around implementation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP). This webinar is co-hosted by two HRSA-funded National Cooperative Agreements (NCAs), the National Nurse-Led Care Consortium and the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations, and features speakers from those organizations, CDC, and HRSA, among others. These speakers will provide resources to address areas of need identified in the scan results.

Shortage Designation Modernization Project: Auto-HPSA National Update Last week, HRSA’s Bureau of Health Workforce updated all automatically designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (Auto-HPSAs). With this update, the Auto-HPSAs are now--and for the first time--scored electronically instead of manually, streamlining the process and ensuring that all HPSAs nationwide are in a single online system.
All Auto-HPSA organizations have the opportunity to submit rescore requests via the online Auto-HPSA portal (view instructions).
HRSA will use updated scores for the FY 2020 National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program application cycle, which will open in February 2020.

Nutrition Counseling for Obesity Prevention in Children: A Handbook for the Dental Community Funded by HRSA, the Temple University Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, in collaboration with the Center for Obesity Research and Education, developed the Nutrition Counseling for Obesity Prevention Handbook. It is a useful resource for dental professionals and dental clinics interested in playing a role in childhood obesity prevention.

Preventive Medicine Grand Rounds, Special Session: Best Practices to Prevent Eating Disorder Progression in Primary Care Join HRSA’s informative preventative medicine webinar focused on eating disorders, presented in partnership with CDC. Primary care providers will:

New! Agricultural Worker Identification Digital Training Tool The National Center for Farmworker Health, a HRSA-funded NCA, created a new tool designed to assist front desk staff in accurately identifying, registering, and completing Uniform Data System reporting for their migratory and seasonal agricultural worker patients. The Ag Worker ID Digital Training tool is a 10-minute training video that provides a perfect introduction to the identification process for new team members, and a great refresher training for more seasoned staff. Consider including it in your next staff meeting or at a lunch-and-learn event!
PCMH Trainings for Health Centers HRSA contracts with The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) to provide TA and training to health centers on the NCQA PCMH recognition process. HRSA is sponsoring regional trainings, organized by PCAs, on NCQA’s Introduction to PCMH and Advanced PCMH courses for health centers. Learn more about the trainings available in your region:
Developing Youth Leadership Teams: Creating a Space for Youth Experiencing Homelessness to Engage with Service Providers Corporation for Supportive Housing, a HRSA-funded NCA, presents a learning collaborative to help health centers establish or grow youth leadership or advisory teams. The four-session opportunity starts in September. Sessions will highlight exemplary programs with components of youth leadership and integration, and will facilitate interactions among participants to share local and organizational strategies, challenges, and successes. Participants will use the framework of a change map to guide their work. Apply by Friday, September 6.
