Dental Chair

Due Today: Oral Health Infrastructure Applications
Applications for HRSA’s fiscal year (FY) 2019 Oral Health Infrastructure (OHI) competitive supplement are due today, Tuesday, May 21, by 5:00 p.m. ET. If your Authorizing Official (AO) hasn’t already submitted your application in EHBs, there are just a few hours left to do so!

Due Tomorrow: SUD-MH Progress Reports
If you received FY 2018 SUD-MH Services supplemental funding, progress reports are due Wednesday, May 22. Find information about the documentation you are required to submit on the SUD-MH TA webpage.

You may not begin any minor alteration and renovation (A/R) activities supported with SUD-MH funding without receiving prior approval from HRSA. You must submit a “Capital Update” via EHBs, and meet all additional conditions when applicable.

Please note: By May 18 you should have hired at least 1.0 FTE direct hire(s) and/or contracted personnel who will support substance use disorder (SUD) and/or mental health services.


Service Area Competition Notice of Funding Opportunity Released for January 1 Starts
HRSA released the first FY 2020 Service Area Competition (SAC) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), HRSA-20-015, for service areas with a January 1, 2020, project period start date (current project period end date is December 31). Current award recipients should refer to box 6 of the most recent Notice of Award to obtain their project period end date.

Applications are due in Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, July 15, and in EHBs by 5:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, August 14. TA materials are available on the SAC TA webpage.


FY 2020 SAC Applicant TA Webinar
HRSA will hold an FY 2020 SAC applicant TA webinar that will apply to all FY 2020 SAC NOFOs and all applicant types.

HRSA’s New Training and Technical Assistance Hub
HRSA is pleased to announce the launch of a new Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) Hub (Hub). The Hub is an easy way to find TA centers associated with many of HRSA’s programs and includes information of interest to safety net providers and training/education programs.

The search function allows users to find resources quickly, or users can browse by topic (for example: older adult health) or by HRSA bureau/office. The Hub is a one-stop-shop for accessing HRSA's T/TA resources.

NIDAMED Webinar: Provider Resources on Substance Use
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) provides an online repository of science-based resources for health professionals on SUD called NIDAMED. During this HRSA webinar, experts will deliver an overview of NIDAMED and its resources, including continuing medical education courses, patient resources, and clinical trial information. The discussion will also focus on available SUD screening guidance and tools.

Behavioral Health Workforce Planning Webinar Recording Available
HRSA recently hosted a webinar sharing evidence-based research and promising practices on behavioral health workforce planning, recruitment, and retention. If you missed it, watch the recording.


Opioid Prescribing Mapping Tool Improved with Medicaid and Rural Data
Earlier this year, CMS released an expanded version of the Opioid Prescribing Mapping Tool, ensuring that users have the most complete and current data needed to effectively address the opioid epidemic across the country. This update further demonstrates HHS’ commitment to opioid data transparency and using data to better inform local prevention and treatment efforts, particularly in rural communities hard hit by the opioid crisis. Medicare Fact Sheet: Safer Use of Opioid Pain Medication
CMS published a new fact sheet to educate Medicare participants about pharmacy processes relating to opioid prescriptions and drug management programs. Other resources are available on their Reducing Opioid Misuse site.


Opioid Overdose Prevention Toolkit
This SAMHSA guide is for health care professionals, communities, patients, and families to prevent and manage opioid overdoses.


HIV

Preventing HIV Infection in Women through Expanded Community Intimate Partner Violence Services
HHS Office on Women’s Health (OWH) is accepting applications from organizations that can provide a community-level focus on the prevention of, screening for, and response to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and its intersection with the risk of HIV infection. Oral Health and Primary Care Integration for People Living with HIV
HRSA will host a two-part webinar series on oral health and primary care integration to support people living with HIV. The strategies we will cover are designed for all HRSA recipients serving people living with HIV regardless of whether the organizations deliver oral health care directly, refer out for all services, or are somewhere in between.

  • Assessing Risk and Providing Basic Services at Primary Care Settings
    This webinar will focus on assessing risk and providing basic oral health services for people living with HIV. We’ll also discuss a new HIV Oral Health and Primary Care Toolkit.

The HRSA Diabetes Quality Improvement Initiative is an effort to improve patient diabetes health outcomes. Migrant Clinicians Network, a HRSA-funded National Cooperative Agreement (NCA), supports the initiative by increasing access to training resources and through performance improvement skills development that will enable you to improve diabetes care within your mobile and agricultural worker populations. Learn strategies to address the social factors that negatively affect diabetes health outcomes in a mobile population.

Loan Repayment for Providers in Rural Communities
A new National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Program, the Rural Community Loan Repayment Program, will expand and improve access to quality opioid and SUD treatment in rural, underserved areas nationwide. Health care clinicians qualified to provide SUD treatment may be eligible for this loan repayment in return for service at an NHSC-approved SUD treatment facility. For more information visit the NHSC Rural Community Loan Repayment Program website and sign up for updates.


Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

Nurse Corps Scholarship Program
Eligible nursing students may receive funding for tuition, fees, and other educational costs, as well as a living stipend. In exchange, they will serve at an eligible facility with a critical shortage of nurses upon graduation. Applications are due TODAY—Tuesday, May 21. HEP Talks

In recognition of Hepatitis Awareness Month, HRSA is hosting  “HEP Talks.” Like TED Talks, these will be condensed and informative presentations focused on emerging and important viral hepatitis topics. Each session features a brief talk by a viral hepatitis expert followed by an opportunity for discussion and questions.

  • Hepatitis C and the Cure
    Robert Gish, a physician and leader in clinical research on viral hepatitis, will discuss the role of primary care providers in treating and curing chronic hepatitis C. Dr. Gish serves as consulting faculty at La Maestra Community Health Services, a HRSA-funded health center in San Diego, and was featured as a speaker on HRSA’s Perinatal Hepatitis B ECHO.

  • Hepatitis B and Perinatal Transmission
    Amy Shen Tang, a primary care internist and Hepatitis B Program Director at Charles B. Wang Community Health Center in New York, will discuss preventing perinatal transmission of viral hepatitis and treating chronic hepatitis B during pregnancy. She was a featured speaker on HRSA’s Perinatal Hepatitis B ECHO.

Healthy Moms Happy Babies: Healing Approaches to Preventing and Responding to Domestic Violence in Home Visitation Programs
Many home visitation and early childhood staff struggle with how best to address issues of domestic violence among their clients. Healthy Moms Happy Babies, now in its fourth edition, is an interactive curriculum that addresses the barriers and difficulties staff experience in addressing domestic violence.

In this upcoming webinar from Futures Without Violence, one of the curriculum authors will address how personal and or vicarious trauma or abuse may impact our ability to do this work. She will share strategies and tools, both personal and organizational, to address the needs of front-line staff and managers so that they feel adequately situated to hear a positive disclosure of abuse.
