What's New

Compliance Resolution Opportunity
Health centers may no longer make quick fixes onsite during an OSV. Instead, they have the opportunity to submit documentation demonstrating compliance following an OSV through a streamlined process called Compliance Resolution Opportunity (CRO).

If HRSA determines that a health center did not demonstrate compliance during their OSV, the agency will send them a Correspondence Request task in HRSA’s Electronic Handbooks (EHBs).

Health centers will have 14 calendar days from the issuance of the EHBs task to submit documentation to resolve noncompliance findings, prior to the finalization of the OSV report. If the health center is able to provide acceptable evidence of compliance in response to the EHBs task, the element will be marked as compliant in the OSV report, and no condition will be applied. Learn more in a new quick reference guide.

School-Based Health Center Capital Program Awards
Last week, HRSA announced $11 million in awards to 120 school-based health centers across the U.S. as part of the fiscal year 2019 School-Based Health Center Capital (SBHCC) Program. View the complete list of award recipients. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to increase access to mental health, substance abuse, and childhood obesity-related services in operational school-based health centers by funding minor alteration/renovation (A/R) projects and/or the purchase of moveable equipment. Award recipients may visit the SBHCC Program TA page for more information.

Nhan Hoa

Nhan Hoa Comprehensive Health Care Clinic – A Million Hearts Hypertension Champion
Nhan Hoa Comprehensive Health Care Clinic in Garden Grove, CA, is one of several health centers that CDC’s Million Hearts® campaign recognized as a 2018 Hypertension Control Champion. To gain control of hypertension in their practice, health center staff focused on team-based care for their chronic disease patients. “Anytime a patient has uncontrolled blood pressure they are referred to our chronic care team where they get regular phone calls and one-on-one meetings with a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and a Health Educator with lots of follow up,” said CEO Jenny Nguyen. For example:

  • LVNs remind patients to check their blood pressure and take their medications on time.
  • Health educators set up one-on-one meetings with patients to help with nutrition and exercise.
  • Everyone documents calls and one-on-one sessions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • The care team presents case studies in their Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance (QI/QA) meetings so that everyone can learn from one another.

Patient Safety Two Decades After To Err is Human
In 1999, The Institute of Medicine report To Err is Human sparked the modern patient safety movement by highlighting the devastating effects of adverse events in health care. In the decades since, various initiatives implemented across all care settings aimed to keep patients safe and improve health care quality. So, where are we now? Join the ECRI Institute’s next Patient Safety Leadership Series webinar to find out:

Two internationally recognized patient safety experts will explore what health care entities have learned since the report, how the patient safety movement has progressed over that time, and what health centers and free clinics can do to continue improvements in the future. Specific areas covered include test tracking and follow-up, tracking patient referrals, and follow-up after patient hospitalizations. References to tools and resources will also be provided.
