Quality Improvement Awards

Celebrating Health Center Quality Improvement
Last Wednesday, HRSA announced $125 million in Quality Improvement Awards (QIAs) to 1,352 community health centers across all U.S. states, territories, and the District of Columbia. These awards recognize the highest performing health centers nationwide as well as those health centers that have made significant quality improvement gains from the previous year.

HHS Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan and HRSA Administrator Dr. George Sigounas visited Mary’s Center in Washington, D.C. to make the QIA announcement and to present CEO Maria Gomez with the Health Center Quality Leader Award certificate for Mary's Center in person (pictured at right). Mary’s Center received a $200,000 quality improvement grant.

“With over 220,000 hardworking healthcare providers taking a holistic approach to patient care, HRSA-funded health centers are able to treat the entire person,” said Dr. Sigounas. “We integrate mental health, oral health, substance use disorder, and primary care services in our care delivery model. Congratulations [to Mary’s Center] on 30 years of success serving your community. This community is healthier and stronger because of your dedication and I applaud you.”

Last week, HRSA regional administrators also visited several health centers around the country to present select National Quality Leader (gold) and Health Center Quality Leader (silver) Award certificates. All gold and silver recipients will receive certificates either in person at a HRSA event or by mail, and web badges are also available to download.

  • Gold and silver award recipients: please contact the BPHC Helpline online or by phone: 877-974-BPHC (2742) with questions about your certificate(s) or web badge(s)

“Health centers are a model of coordinated care, which is a particular area of my passion,” said Deputy Secretary Hargan at Mary’s Center. “We’re health center fans—when we’re on the road, we want to see a health center.”

Introducing Health Center Profiles: Sharing Stories to Make Communities Stronger
HRSA is excited to offer a new opportunity to highlight the Health Center Program and the impact health centers have on the communities they serve. The Health Center Profiles highlight health centers whose work has led to significant improvements in increasing access to care, high quality care delivery, health outcomes, cost effectiveness, and health disparities. The Profiles promote continuous learning among our stakeholders and provide health centers with access to lessons learned, best and promising practices, evidence-based interventions, and resources. Here are the first two featured Health Center Profiles:
