NARA Records Management Updates
For those interested in or responsible for recordkeeping, NARA has shared several notices recently for agencies and employees:
- Who may have missed the deadline for transferring analog (usually paper) records to NARA, we must digitize permanent records before transfer to NARA. In most cases, if you digitize records to 36 CFR 1236, subparts D and E standards, you may destroy the source records using the General Records Schedule 4.5, item 010.
- Required to send their collections of records to NARA; please note that they have announced the publication of General Records Schedule (GRS) Transmittal 36. This transmittal includes one new schedule: GRS 6.7: Special Collections Required by Statute. This schedule provides the disposition authority necessary to allow agencies to transfer digital copies of special collections to NARA, ensuring that these collections are preserved and accessible for future use.
- Managing email at the agency level, it's of utmost importance to review the recently released frequently asked questions (FAQ) about contact lists used and managed by the agency for email and electronic messaging communications. This proactive step will ensure you are well-informed and prepared to manage email effectively. NARA has more details on email and electronic messages management.

Shout out to Dan Icitovic (BIC)!
I would like to send a BIG shout out to Dan Icitovic for stepping up and filling in on PBS BI support while Will Spelker has been on detail to the RPA program. This has been a daunting task, especially as year-end approaches, to ensure customers continue to receive their data in a timely and accurate manner. Dan has had to juggle his base workload with these extra responsibilities. A few times he had a troubleshoot issues with data loads and agent failures, but he managed to work with the appropriate parties to address each one. Thanks for your efforts, Dan!

Shout out to Patrick Willers and the Process Optimization and Automation Team!
"I just wanted to take some time to reach out and let you know how much the MRAS team appreciates the work of the Process Optimization & Automation team, and Patrick Willers specifically, for the incredible support that continues to drive the success of the MRAS program. The recent release of the MRAS Tool 2.0 has been a game changer for collaborating across the many internal stakeholders involved in supporting our customers and our ability to scale and increase our efficiency and effectiveness in supporting market research requests. The enhanced functionality, ability to be more agile in making updates or changes, and the straightforward design focused on ease of use that far exceeded our expectations for this interface.
Patrick continues to be a force for positive change and his ongoing collaboration with our team is so valuable and appreciated. He finds ways to make things happen and keeps us honest and practical in our approach. He is always helping us find new ways to automate and modernize by incorporating new technologies and tools available to us is so key as we look at FY25 and beyond. And as you know, Patrick and several others from your team are working with us directly to prioritize our goals and create a roadmap for projects, process improvements, and enhancements for FY25. We are excited to see everything we can accomplish together in the coming year once again!
We are going to finish FY24 with over 30% growth from FY23 and that increase is directly tied to working with your program, and we continue to be grateful that the PO&A team and Patrick have been part of this journey in establishing the MRAS program as its own division in FAS."

Don't Forget! The Career Planning and Training Tool is Here to Help
The CFO Council's (CFOC) Career Planning and Training Tool has recently undergone a revision to its functionality to make it easier to identify courses that align with the CFOC’s core competencies for the financial management job series (501, 510, 511 and 565). You can start using the tool by clicking on the job series and GS-level filters. Career guidance in the form of virtual cards will display in the center of the screen and below.
Each virtual card will include information about a competency, including a general description, relevant behaviors, and proficiency levels. The cards will also contain embedded links to vendor courses that will help you master aspects of each competency. The partner vendors offer a wide array of course types and learning modalities, including on-line, on-site, hybrid, micro-learning, cohort style, and many more. These courses are available for purchase via government purchase card (note - purchases on government purchase cards are limited to $10,000; most courses are significantly less than that).
Try it today and give your professional development a boost!
