New! Datathon 5.0 Winners Announced!
Don’t have a cow, man — the winners of Datathon 5.0 have finally been announced. And guess what? Everything’s coming up Selma. That’s right, Team Selma, whose members are Lizzie Voss (2P1B), Sarah Selenich (MAE), Maureen Sullivan (BG2CA), Susan Dobrosavljevic (PQC), Renata Melo-Augusto (BR2R), and Amber Flaharty (2PP), was selected as the overall winner of this iteration of the Analytics Community of Practice’s datathon event.
This go-round, 79 participants were split up into 12 teams that were tasked with using a set of real PBS Reimbursable Work Authorization (RWA) data to tell a unique story using their critical thinking and analytics skills. The teams were asked to analyze the data to generate insights on things like where GSA should focus its RWA business to ensure adequate cost recovery, and who are the top RWA customers.
Over two weeks in May, the teams presented their insights to a group of six judges: Zach Whitman, GSA’s chief data and AI officer; Mike Flowers, senior tech advisor to the Administrator; Matthew Crothers, PBS’s chief data officer; Kathy Hammer, director of the Office of Financial Management; Evan Farley director of the Office of Audit Management and Accountability; and Cecilia Keeley, Zone 3 Regional Financial Services director. Team Selma’s presentation stood out because of the keen insights, clear communication, and high quality analysis.
In addition to the overall winner, there were winners across four categories:
- Critical Thinking: Team Wiggum
- Data Use: Team Lisa
- Analysis: Team Wiggum
- Communication: Team Lisa
