The Clock is Ticking for Mid-year Reviews
If you haven't completed your mid-year review yet, there's still time to get it done before the May 31st deadline.
Here are a few tips for success:
-
Clear your cache. GSA IT recently completed a software upgrade that requires you to clear your web browser cache to properly access HR Links.
- Prepare an optional self-assessment [download], an ideal way to outline your successes and accomplishments. Reference the employee job aid on completing a self-assessment in HR Links.
If you have questions, please contact your servicing HR office.

The OCFO Article Club will be meeting Wednesday, May 24th at noon Eastern. This month's discussion will focus on the influence of artificial intelligence and other technological advancements on public and private work. The article guiding the conversation is How to Responsibly Use ChatGPT (and Other LLM Applications) in Your Business Interactions. There are also two administration statements that you can read — Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights and FACT SHEET: Biden-Harris Administration Announces New Actions to Promote Responsible AI Innovation that Protects Americans’ Rights and Safety — for background.
Also, a reminder that OCFO has an enterprise-wide subscription to Gartner, which contains many applicable resources through their Government Finance Leadership Council (including CPE). Registering takes less than a minute and simply requires a gsa.gov email address. Go to https://www.gartner.com/.
If the event isn't on your calendar, you can join by Google Meet on May 24th at noon Eastern.
New! Records Management Program Update
-
To refamiliarize ourselves, the GSA policy is that every project within the agency must specifically assign an individual of the project to have someone with the role of record keeping subject matter expert (SME). Responsibilities of the SME include maintaining and tracking the records in use and created by the project and ensuring the proper destruction, storage, or transfer of the records when the project ends. The SME/Recordskeeper is also responsible to assist with finding and holding records in their area of responsibility when needed for an audit, FOIA, litigation, or other information requests.
-
Records stored on Google Drive or on other electronic locations must be well named and organized. Ideally, each project will store records in a centralized location that is organized by fiscal year and record type. Some common record types include: correspondence, status reports, and project deliverables, as well as record types specific to your organization. If each member of a project uses the same naming convention for both files as well as email subjects, then storing and finding records will be much easier.
-
Maintaining agency permanent records is an ongoing process we need to continue. If you’re looking up the record types that you use, but do not see them in the Agency Retention Schedule or the Schedule Cross Reference, then please send a note to records@gsa.gov and we’ll help you find it, or we can work with NARA on your behalf to have a new records disposition authorization created (this takes about a year - FYI), but it’s something we may need to do.
Every week we will feature OCFO colleagues who have been recognized by their peers for their great work and character. This is a quick, easy, and fun way to acknowledge and thank one another.
To recognize one (or more) of your peers in the next Week in Review, use the OCFO Shout Outs Google Form.

Shout out to Mason Thomas (BBFA)!
We'd like to give a shout out to Mason Thomas for identifying that some data was missing from the FAS Financial Dashboard on the P&L page(s). February data was missing, and Mason took the initiative to notify the proper personnel to research the issue. He also verified that YTD info (through Q2) was indeed correct and inclusive of February information even though that month's data wasn't in the monthly view. Kudos to Mason for uncovering that issue and reporting it! Thank you!

AI is Everywhere!
As we start to think about more ways to use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve our mission delivery, here is a story on how Walmart is using AI to make shopping better for its customers. This is just one example of how large companies are deploying AI and machine learning to advance their business. How could AI start improving your day to day work?
