For
government travelers searching for hotels, free Wi-Fi tops the list of the most desired amenities this year. Being at the forefront of many debates
recently, each hotel brand has a different policy regarding fees for Wi-Fi and
speeds available. Brands such as Best
Western and La Quinta offer free Wi-Fi at faster speeds. Some hotel
chains, such as Choice Hotels International, offer complimentary Wi-Fi at
certain properties and as a benefit to their loyalty program members. In
February, Hyatt Hotels became the largest U.S. hotelier to offer free Wi-Fi in
guestrooms and public spaces in their hotels worldwide.
To break
down what hotels are offering guests, here is a list of Wi-Fi policies at
a few of our partner hotel chains:
Hilton Hotels: Free Wi-Fi for all Hilton HHonors
Gold and Diamond members, and also for all Blue and Silver members beginning in August of 2015. Premium Wi-Fi is available on a tiered pricing
system.
Hyatt Hotels: Free for all guests. Premium Wi-Fi
is available for a fee (free for Diamond and Platinum Hyatt Gold Passport
members).
InterContinental Hotel Group: Free for all Rewards Club members.
Marriott: Free for all Rewards members.
Premium Wi-Fi is available for a fee (free for Gold and Platinum elite
members).
Starwood Hotels: Free Wi-Fi for all Starwood
Preferred Guest members. Premium Wi-Fi is free for Starwood Preferred, Gold and Platinum guests.

Many of our hotel partners have introduced new, non-traditional ways for travelers to earn hotel points this year. Highlights from three of these innovative brands with out-of-the-box initiatives are as follows:
Starwood Hotels
For the remainder of 2015, Starwood is offering rewards points to travelers who use the Uber app in conjunction with their stay. Guests can link Uber with their Starwood Preferred Guest account, which is free to set up, and earn at least one point for every $1 they spend. The only requirement is that guests must sign up for the rewards program and log one stay at a Starwood hotel. If a traveler takes a Uber ride while staying in a Starwood hotel, they can earn even more points, depending on their Starwood rewards status.
Wyndham
Wyndham’s rewards program enables travelers to earn two points for every dollar spent on the supply portion of their electric bill when they sign up for the Energy Plus program. Participating states include Illinois, Maryland, Massachussetts, New Jersey, New York Ohio and Pennsylvania. Travelers will experience no change in service from their local utility company, and there is no fee to enroll or cancel. The Energy Plus Green Option allows enrolled members to help support renewable energy options while still earning valuable rewards points.
Club Carlson
Club Carlson has partnered with Vinesse Wine Club, allowing travelers to earn 10 Gold Points per dollar spent on wine club shipments.
