When you picture your perfect hotel stay, what comes to mind? Is it a hotel that makes you feel like you are at home, or perhaps one that provides a free breakfast buffet in the morning to start your day off right? While searching for that ideal hotel, many travelers focus on ratings and rates as their main selection criteria. There is another factor, however, that should be a high priority on your travel checklist: complimentary amenities.
Over half of FedRooms accepted hotels offer free breakfast, and about 40 percent offer free internet. In addition, about 20 percent of FedRooms properties offer a free shuttle to and from government facilities within a five mile radius, making your commute into work more convenient and budget friendly.
While ratings do help travelers differentiate between properties online, comparing your checklist of amenities is also key to ensuring comfort on the road and avoiding additional fees. A three star hotel, for example, that offers complimentary amenities to guests such as free internet and parking may be a wiser choice than a four or five star hotel that charges you to use wi-fi and order breakfast in the morning.
According to Travel Pulse, travelers are likely to scan through more than 10 sources on average before booking travel services. The quick and easy availability of information through modern technology enables travelers to compare properties and weed out hotels that do not fit their needs. To save your agency money and yourself the hassle, make sure you consider the inclusion of amenities when booking your next trip in the New Year.
Effective January 1st of the New Year, both Marriott and Hilton hotels will change their global hotel cancellation policies for all U.S. and international travelers. The new Marriott standard will require travelers to cancel their hotel before 11:59 p.m. on the day before arrival to avoid any penalties. Hilton hotels will also mandate the 11:59 p.m. cancellation policy on the day prior to arrival as a minimum cancellation requirement, meaning that some properties may have more restrictive policies.
Fortunately, if you book a Marriott or Hilton property that participates in the FedRooms program, you can still cancel without penalty on the day of arrival. We place a high value on our cancellation guarantee for travelers. All properties will continue to enforce the 4:00 p.m. or later day of arrival cancellation policy for domestic properties, and 24 hour or less restrictive cancellation policy for international properties.
Avoid Marriott and Hilton's new cancellation rules by booking your trip with participating FedRooms properties through your agency's online booking tool (ETS/DTS) and always asking for the FedRooms rate when using your designated travel provider (TMC or CTO).
New in 2015, we have redesigned our webinars into a more interactive format to teach travelers how FedRooms can help save you time and money while following your agency's travel policies. Sessions will last a half hour with a Q+A portion at the end.
