We here at the USDA are trying to make the smart choice the healthy choice when it comes to students and their snacks.  The “Smart Snacks in School” standards encourages healthier snacks while limiting snacks high in fat, sugar, and sodium in schools, but what about out of school.  We want to hear about your challenges, successes, and tricks to get your kids and teens to snack healthier and smarter, especially around Halloween.

Here are the topics we will be discussing:

T1: Tomorrow is Halloween but everyday kids should focus on smart snacks. What are challenges for kids to snack healthily? #HealthierNextGen

T2: As a parent or caregiver, what are some tricks or strategies you use to help your child like & choose healthy snacks? #HealthierNextGen

T3: Days after Halloween, parents have to limit candy intake. But on other days, how do you limit the junk food? #HealthierNextGen

T4: School meals are now lower in fat, sugar & sodium. Do you have any tips for easy & healthy tweaks to your fav dishes? #HealthierNextGen

T5: Research shows school-based programs can help reduce childhood obesity. Share some of your school successes. #HealthierNextGen

T6: Everyone needs resources on how to snack smartly.  Share some of your favorite materials now. #HealthierNextGen

T7: Who’s been an inspiration to you & your children for healthy eating?  Give’em a shout out (pics welcome)!  #HealthierNextGen
