Health Effects of Tobacco Use
Tobacco has serious effects on the health of users. To grasp the importance of these effects on one’s body and life, it can be helpful to see this information in a new format.
We’ve created a new “Health Effects of Tobacco Use” webpage as a hub of information and added several FDA resources to share how smoking can affect one’s health and where to go to get help quitting smoking:
Cigarettes are responsible for the vast majority of all tobacco-related disease and death in the U.S. Smokers are exposed to a toxic mix of over 7,000 chemicals when they inhale cigarette smoke, the consequences of which can threaten their health in many ways.
FDA has developed an infographic with eight facts about how smoking can affect one’s health, including contributing to stroke, diabetes, cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This free infographic is available in both English and Spanish for print order and download.
While knowledge of the health effects of tobacco use can be helpful on the path to quitting smoking, it’s important to be aware that many people who smoke do not quit for good on their first attempt.
